Dog abandoned at Las Vegas airport now looking for forever home after owner arrested

A woman was arrested in Las Vegas after she reportedly left her dog at the airport when she wasn’t allowed on her flight. She tied the dog to a baggage check stand near the ticket counter.

Las Vegas police say the incident occurred on February 2nd at Harry Reid International Airport. The dog involved is now safe and will soon be available for adoption.

Around 11:30 p.m. local time, police were called to the JetBlue ticket counter after receiving reports of a dog that had been tied to a baggage size checker.

JetBlue staff informed the woman that her dog needed the correct paperwork to travel as a service animal, according to Las Vegas Metro Police. She never completed the necessary forms and was therefore not allowed to board her flight.

According to police, she left the dog and went through the airport to her gate.

Owner arrested after leaving dog at ticket counter

Airport officers found the woman at Gate D1 and asked her why she’d left her dog at the counter. She told them the airline wouldn’t let her travel with the dog, and that it had a tracking device, suggesting she believed it could find its way back to her, making it okay to leave it there.

Police say the woman became aggressive and fought back when officers tried to hold her at the security checkpoint. She was then arrested and charged with abandoning an animal and resisting arrest.

Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas is now taking care of the dog. According to spokesperson Danielle Roth, airport employees responded immediately when they understood the situation.

Roth said that once airport staff understood the situation, everyone was incredibly helpful. He specifically thanked the JetBlue ticket counter staff, TSA, Las Vegas Metro Police, Animal Control, and The Animal Foundation for their support.

Even though JetBlue was abandoned, he’s a remarkably loving dog. He’s very affectionate, gentle, and loves meeting new people. It’s amazing how trusting and warm he is, considering his past.

The rescue organization is carefully planning what to do next and hopes to find him a safe, caring home.
