Does Isobel die in FBI? Showrunner explains shocking Season 8 premiere

The seventh season of FBI left viewers wondering what would happen to Isobel Castille (Alana De La Garza), but fans can now breathe a sigh of relief. Season 8 of the popular crime drama has finally arrived.

This month offers a wide variety of new shows to stream, from spooky Halloween options like ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ to lighthearted comedies like the second season of ‘Nobody Wants This’.

Fans are also looking forward to the next season of The Witcher on Netflix, now starring Liam Hemsworth instead of Henry Cavill. And next month, the long-awaited Season 5 of Stranger Things will finally be released.

If you love thrilling crime shows, you’ll be glad to know FBI is back! The CBS series returned less than six months after its dramatic Season 7 finale. Be careful – the following contains spoilers!

Does Isobel die in FBI?

Despite a difficult start for Isobel in the first episode of FBI Season 8, ‘Takeover’, the episode ultimately shows she survived and is healing from her injuries.

In the seventh season finale, the dangerous group Forefront managed to sneak into the FBI and launched a deadly attack. Isobel was caught in the explosion, and her survival seemed uncertain, but she surprisingly recovered… or so it appeared.

At the very end of the episode, Jubal goes back to 26 Fed, and Isobel follows him. However, she begins to struggle with her speech before suddenly collapsing. Jubal checks and finds she has no pulse, which leaves viewers worried she may have died.

The start of Season 8 didn’t offer much hope, as the premiere episode on CBS (October 13th) revealed Isobel had a brain bleed and needed immediate brain surgery.

Thankfully, she recovers and lives. Unfortunately, another character isn’t so lucky.

What happens to Dani in Season 8?

Despite Isobel surviving, Dani (Emily Alabi) is killed off in the first episode of Season 8 after being shot while working on a new case.

In this episode, Maggie and OA are taken hostage while searching for a judge’s son. Scola and Dani show up to assist, but quickly find themselves caught in a dangerous gunfight.

Dani is shot, initially believing her bulletproof vest protected her. However, she later collapses and dies. According to showrunner Mike Weiss, this event will profoundly affect Scola.

It’s always difficult to lose a partner, and Scola will likely be grieving Dani’s loss for some time,” he said.

Scola became an FBI agent after his brother’s death. He’s a dedicated character who channels his grief into his work, finding ways to remember and honor those he’s lost every day. This makes him a valuable member of the team.

FBI showrunner teases new cast member Claire Coffee

So, everyone’s wondering if the new partner they’re bringing onto the show is actually Claire Coffee, who’s been cast but we don’t know what role she’ll play yet. Basically, is she this new character?

According to Weiss, while he doesn’t want to reveal any plot details or what Claire will be doing next, she won’t be joining the FBI in the near future. However, Scola remains open to working with new partners.

Having experienced loss, this character now cherishes even the smallest moments with loved ones – and treats every new person he meets with the same appreciation.

The showrunner explained that the writing team routinely considers major character changes at the beginning of each season. They ask themselves how altering the existing relationships and balance of power would affect the story.

Isobel is the glue that holds the team together. We adore Alana and her character, so removing her from the show was never an option. Still, we were curious to explore how things would change if she was temporarily away from the office.

When the team faces a major setback, how do they respond? Who takes charge and helps keep things on track? We’re also excited to have her return to the office when she’s able.

When is FBI Season 8 Episode 2 out?

New episodes of FBI air on CBS Mondays. Specifically, Season 8 Episode 2, titled ‘Captured’, will premiere on October 20, 2025, at 9 PM Eastern Time and 8 PM Central Time.

If you’ve cut the cord and don’t have cable, you can watch the latest episodes on Paramount+ starting the day after they air on CBS.

I’m so excited for all the new content! While we wait for more news, I’m definitely going to check out what Netflix is adding this month, find something super addictive to binge-watch, and already start planning my viewing schedule with their 2025 TV calendar!
