There’s talk that Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom might team up in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film, and some newly released artwork hints at how that alliance could begin. While Robert Downey Jr. is set to play the main villain, Doctor Doom, several other well-known actors will also be featured in the next Avengers movie.
It’s surprising that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange wasn’t initially announced as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast. Considering the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Doctor Doom will have magical abilities, it makes sense that Strange would appear in the movie. However, instead of battling Doom, Strange might actually end up working with him.

Fan art depicts Doctor Strange kneeling before Doctor Doom, who is using magic – likely from the Darkhold – to restrain him. Standing with Doom is Steve Rogers, portrayed as the villainous Captain Hydra, and confirmed to appear in the upcoming Marvel movie. It’s unclear whether Doom is imprisoning Strange, or listening to him, potentially hinting at a future alliance.
Why Doctor Strange And Doctor Doom Could Be Allies In Avengers: Doomsday
It might actually make sense for Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange to team up in a future Avengers film. Benedict Cumberbatch’s version of Strange already knows about other versions of himself causing trouble across the multiverse. In fact, he was responsible for the dangerous incursion that he and Clea (played by Charlize Theron) tried to fix at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
If Robert Downey Jr. plays Doctor Doom as someone who initially claims to be a hero trying to save the multiverse, Doctor Strange might team up with him in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. This idea is inspired by the comics, where Doctor Strange actually worked for Doctor Doom as his trusted second-in-command, known as the Sheriff of Agamotto, and the movie could follow a similar storyline.
Will Doctor Strange Really Appear In Avengers: Doomsday?
It seems logical that Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom might team up, but it’s still uncertain if Benedict Cumberbatch will even be in Avengers: Doomsday. Although Cumberbatch has stated he will appear, he previously said Doctor Strange wouldn’t be in the 2026 movie, and would instead be a key character in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.
The actor’s comments about potentially being in the Marvel movie are getting a lot of attention, especially since he wasn’t included in the initial cast announcements or the movie’s theatrical teasers. Some fans speculate Doctor Strange might have a hidden, important role in the film, possibly related to Doctor Doom, and will be revealed later in Avengers: Doomsday.
