Disney’s ‘Zootopia 2’ Beats ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Box Office

Disney’s latest film is a massive success, becoming the highest-grossing movie of the year worldwide. It recently surpassed its predecessor, earning over $1.13 billion in just two weeks and becoming the biggest Hollywood hit of 2025.

Although the animated film Ne-Zha 2 from China has earned the most money overall this year with $1.9 billion, Zootopia 2’s strong performance means Disney is set to have the three highest-grossing Hollywood movies of the year. Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to finish the year with another $1 billion in earnings as well.

Disney Has Dominated the Box Office…but Not in the Way It Was Expected

Disney is regaining its position as a box office leader after a difficult period following the Covid pandemic. While some films like Snow White and Thunderbolts haven’t performed well, Disney recently followed up the success of Inside Out 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Moana 2 with another strong showing, securing three of the top spots at the box office.

Disney’s future is looking very promising. The company has a strong lineup of major movies planned for 2026 and 2027, especially from its most popular franchises, with other exciting projects also in the works.

Disney is planning a live-action remake of Moana in 2026, hoping to build on the popularity of both the recent Moana 2 and the successful remake of Lilo & Stitch. Summer 2026 will also bring new installments of Toy Story, Spider-Man, and The Mandalorian. But the biggest release of the year is expected to be Avengers: Doomsday in December, which Disney hopes will be their biggest film since Endgame.

Next year promises huge releases from Disney, potentially including the biggest Marvel movie ever with Avengers: Secret Wars. Star Wars will return to theaters with Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, and Frozen 3 is also slated for release. These films could give Disney the top three highest-grossing movies of the year – for the fourth year running.

The future of movies is unpredictable, particularly with the possibility of Netflix and Warner Bros. combining, which could cause big changes. However, despite some thinking Disney’s popularity is fading, they consistently prove their staying power.
