Disneyland in California recently took down its largest “Hidden Mickey” – a silhouette of Mickey Mouse’s head subtly placed within the park’s design. This was likely done to create space for the new *Cocothemed attraction. For years, Disney has playfully hidden Mickey Mouse shapes throughout its parks, and fans have loved the challenge of finding them. These hidden images, known as “Hidden Mickeys,” come in various sizes and can be discovered throughout all Disney Parks.
Disney has taken down its largest Hidden Mickey at Disneyland in California, according to Scott Gustin on X (formerly Twitter). Construction has started on the area where the iconic image was located, and it wasn’t even inside the park itself, but on Disney property.

This Hidden Mickey is located on Disneyland Drive, right outside the entrance to Disney California Adventure Park. It’s only visible from above, created by the pattern of the sidewalk itself.
While Disneyland hasn’t said for sure, most people think they’re removing the Hidden Mickey to make space for the new Coco attraction and expand the Pixar Pier area in California Adventure.
During the 2024 D23 Expo, Josh D’Amaro, who was then Chairman of Disney Experiences (and is now Disney’s CEO), revealed plans for a new boat ride in Disney California Adventure themed around the movie Coco. The ride is expected to be similar in design to Pirates of the Caribbean.
The new Coco ride is planned to start construction in 2026. Given that Coco is a Pixar film, it’s logical Disney would expand Pixar Pier to accommodate it, so reports about the removal of the Hidden Mickey to make way for the expansion are probably true.
Disney’s Most Popular Hidden Mickeys
It’s impossible to say exactly how many Hidden Mickeys exist in Disney parks globally – and that’s part of the fun! While some dedicated fans claim to have discovered as many as 4,750, the true number remains a mystery. No matter how many there are, certain Hidden Mickeys are more well-known or cleverly concealed than others.
A huge Hidden Mickey can be spotted on the Kilimanjaro Safaris ride at Walt Disney World in Florida. As you go past the flamingos, look at the island they’re standing on – it’s cleverly shaped like Mickey Mouse’s head and ears!
One of the most unusual Hidden Mickeys can be found at Walt Disney World, on the “Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid” ride. What makes this Hidden Mickey special is that it only appears on Mickey Mouse’s birthday, November 18th. On this date, the sunlight shines through a skylight at just the right angle to create the Hidden Mickey shape on the floor.
For many Disneyland fans, the most beloved Hidden Mickey is located on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. As you travel through the pirate scene, look up to see a grouping of barrels hanging from the ceiling – they’re arranged to cleverly create the shape of a Mickey Mouse head.
