Like many people, I enjoy the rides at Disney parks. However, my favorite part of a Disney visit is always the nighttime entertainment. I’ve often talked about how much I love the ‘Paint the Night’ parade and fireworks, but a truly great nighttime show can include so much more. I’ve been hoping Disneyland would expand its offerings in this area for a long time.
I’ve been eager to see Disney Parks adopt drone shows like the impressive ones at Dollywood and Universal Studios Florida’s Cinesational. So far, the only offering has been the enjoyable, but small-scale, Disney Dreams That Soar at Disney Springs. Now, it looks like drones are coming to another Disney park, and many believe it will be Disneyland.
Disney Is Testing A New Drone Show Above Golden Oak Ranch
Some Southern California residents have been blessed with a free Disney nighttime spectacular over the last couple of nights. As was recently captured on Instagram, those in the Santa Clarita area north of Los Angeles have been able to spy a Disney-themed drone show, and it looks absolutely beautiful.

This is truly spectacular. The visuals, such as Captain Hook’s ship soaring through the air, are unlike anything achievable with traditional fireworks or projections. It’s pure Disney enchantment.
Drones are currently flying over Golden Oak Ranch, a property Walt Disney first leased in the late 1950s and later bought in 1959. Over the years, it’s served as the backdrop for countless Disney movies and TV shows, including classics like The Mickey Mouse Club and more recent productions like Something Wicked This Way Comes, which is now available on Disney+.
Okay, so they’re doing some testing really close to Disneyland, and honestly, my first thought was, ‘Could this be for a new show?’ It just makes sense, considering it’s happening near Walt’s original park. It’s definitely a possibility, but who knows, it could be something else entirely.
Which Disney Park Is This For?
Using Golden Oak Ranch as a preparation area suggests the show might be performed at Disneyland, but it could really be for any Disney park. While Walt Disney World has plenty of space for testing, Golden Oak Ranch is conveniently located near the Walt Disney Imagineering headquarters in Southern California, making it a practical place to test shows no matter where they ultimately appear.
In 2026, Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris will become Disney Adventure World and introduce a brand new nighttime spectacular. The show will take place over the park’s Central Lake and feature impressive water screens – similar to the ‘World of Color’ show at Disney California Adventure – as well as a dazzling display of drones. This new show may be a preview of what guests can expect.
It’s currently unknown whether Disneyland Resort will be able to host a drone show. Unlike Walt Disney World, Disneyland in Anaheim, California, must follow strict city rules. These regulations already limit when the park can have fireworks – for example, shows are cancelled in strong winds and are often restricted to weekends. These same rules could impact the possibility of a drone show.
It’s unclear if Disneyland will use drones for shows, though it’s possible they could get permission from the city to do so. I’m hoping what we’ve seen is a preview of a new drone show at Disneyland Resort, either in Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure. If it’s meant for Disneyland Paris, I might have to plan a trip there to see it!
