Disney Plus subscribers were surprised and confused to receive emails explaining a significant price hike for annual subscriptions, which have doubled from $79.99 to $159.99.
In September, Disney announced price increases for its streaming plans. The ad-supported Disney Plus plan will now cost $11.99 per month, a $2 increase, and the ad-free Premium plan will be $18.99 per month, up $3.
These price changes are now active, and yearly subscribers will see the biggest increases. Some plans will increase by $30, while others, particularly those with older, discounted rates, will see an $80 increase.
Barstool Sports’ Dante Deiana recently gained attention online after sharing a screenshot showing his $80 monthly subscription was set to increase to $160 starting November 19th.
Massive Disney Plus price hike stuns subscribers
Dante cancelled his Disney Plus subscription right away, explaining he’d only signed up to watch one particular show.
“Just cancelled. I only had it for Mandalorian,” he said.

Some people cancelled their subscriptions and encouraged others to do the same, while some openly supported illegal downloading. One user even shared a picture of their cancellation confirmation, saying, “It’s simple – just cancel.”
People across the internet started sharing similar experiences, with many Reddit users saying they had also canceled their Disney Plus subscriptions.
I’ve decided to cancel my Disney subscription after this price increase. I’ve been a subscriber since it first became available, and now I’m asking my kids what shows and movies they really enjoy so I can download them for them before I cancel my account.
It’s easier than you think. Just do it

Disney and YouTube TV are currently in a disagreement because they haven’t reached an agreement on a new deal for channels like ESPN and ABC.
This recent criticism follows a similar situation two months ago, when Disney received numerous cancellations after briefly taking Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air. This happened because the show’s host made contentious statements regarding the shooting of political activist Charlie Kirk and those with him.
After the Jimmy Kimmel controversy and now this price increase, some people are still choosing not to renew their Disney Plus subscriptions.
