The Disney+ release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps includes an extended version of the film that many people didn’t see in theaters. The Fantastic Four was Marvel Studios’ last movie of 2025, and while it didn’t perform well in cinemas, fans generally enjoyed it. The reboot received immediate praise for its stunning visuals and, in particular, its epic depiction of Galactus, the cosmic planet-eater.
Okay, so I finally checked out The Fantastic Four: First Steps on Disney+, and it was awesome! The best part? From the very beginning, you could watch it in the expanded IMAX format – the same one they showed in theaters when it came out in July. It really made a difference, giving you that bigger, more immersive picture. As a movie buff, I really appreciated being able to experience it that way at home!

Viewers especially loved seeing Galactus, voiced by Ralph Ineson, in IMAX format in The Fantastic Four. The IMAX presentation really emphasized his enormous size, particularly during the third act of the film.

It was surprising to see the extra content added, especially since it wasn’t available on the Blu-ray or digital releases.

Since the IMAX version wasn’t included with the home video release and most people see films in standard format, the Disney+ release of The Fantastic Four will likely be the first time many viewers experience it.

Although many people loved how Galactus looked in IMAX during The Fantastic Four, only about six minutes of the 114-minute movie was actually filmed in that format.

Honestly, the most amazing part of any Galactus story, for me, is when he really goes all-out in the final act. Seeing him destroy New York while chasing after Franklin Richards and the Fantastic Four is just epic – that’s when he truly shines!

Seeing Galactus’ ship in IMAX is a real upgrade – you can actually see his entire head and upper body, unlike previous versions where the top of his head was cut off.

Marvel Studios created a remarkably detailed version of Galactus, and viewers are only now fully appreciating it thanks to IMAX’s expanded screen size, which shows 26% more of the picture than typical formats.

The episode “First Steps” offers another glimpse of the immense power of Galactus, shown aboard his ship, as Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer approaches him for a conversation.

After playing in theaters, becoming available digitally and on disc, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is now available to stream. But fans won’t have to wait long to see this version of the team again – Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Mass-Bachrach are all set to reprise their roles as the Fantastic Four in Avengers: Doomsday next year.
Marvel’s Fantastic Four are set to reappear in Avengers: Secret Wars next year, and Marvel Studios is already developing a new Fantastic Four project with director Matt Shakman.
Marvel Studios Needs to Step Up Its IMAX Game in 2026
Following the streaming release of Thunderbolts without the expanded IMAX version, fans are now wondering if The Fantastic Four will receive the full IMAX experience on Disney+. While there were initial hopes for an IMAX upgrade, it’s been two and a half months since Thunderbolts premiered, and no announcements have been made, leading to doubts about whether it will happen.
Marvel fans can look forward to seeing “Avengers: Doomsday” in IMAX theaters next December, promising a fantastic viewing experience. However, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” likely won’t be available in IMAX, as its release in July coincides with Christopher Nolan’s new film, “The Odyssey.”
Hopefully, Doomsday will feature more IMAX footage than The Fantastic Four. Although the six minutes of IMAX in The Fantastic Four was impressive, it only made up about 5% of the entire film.
