Rosario Dawson, who plays Ahsoka, has revealed that the budget for the second season of her Disney+ series has been reduced compared to the first season. Fans are excited for the show’s return, particularly after the first season ended on a cliffhanger with Ahsoka and Sabine Wren stranded in Peridea. While filming for Season 2 recently finished in the UK, news about the show’s budget has unexpectedly become a topic of discussion.
The second season of *Ahsoka* is predicted to be a significant undertaking, potentially exceeding the cost of its first season on Disney+. While many anticipated a budget increase due to the ambitious, dual-world storyline, the show’s star recently shared details about the actual production budget.
At Comic Con Scotland in October 2025, Rosario Dawson shared (via X user @Gemm1319) that the budget for the second season of Disney+’s *Ahsoka* is smaller than the first season. However, she assured fans that the new season will be more ambitious and expansive.
This is a first for *Ahsoka* – it’s the first live-action *Star Wars* show on Disney+ to have a smaller budget for its second season. Season 1 reportedly cost around $100 million to produce (according to Dexerto), suggesting Season 2 will cost less.
Compared to other Star Wars shows, *Andor* was the most costly, with its first season costing $250 million and its second (and final) season increasing to $291 million. *Obi-Wan Kenobi* had the smallest budget of the live-action series, reportedly at $90 million.
Season 1 of *The Mandalorian* cost around $15 million per episode, totaling $120 million for the entire season. Season 2 had a similar budget, but according to Entertainment Weekly, it benefited from lower initial costs, meaning more of the money was visible in the final product. Season 3 is also estimated to have cost about the same amount.
The budget for *The Mandalorian* only went up when the show began filming for larger screens. The California Film Commission revealed that the upcoming *The Mandalorian & Grogu* movie, planned for 2026, is costing significantly more than anticipated – around $166 million.
At $136 million, *Star Wars: Skeleton Crew* cost more to produce than an entire season of *The Mandalorian*. *The Acolyte* was even pricier, coming in at $230 million, making it the second most expensive of the two.
Season 2 of *Ahsoka*, created by Dave Filoni, follows Ezra Bridger as he works with the New Republic to bring Ahsoka and Sabine back to the central galaxy. The show features Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rory McCann, Lars Mikkelsen, Eman Esfandi, and Hayden Christensen, and is anticipated to premiere on Disney+ in 2026.
Why a Small Budget Could Be Good for Ahsoka Season 2
Rosario Dawson revealed that while Season 2 of *Ahsoka* has a smaller budget, it’s actually aiming for a grander scope. This indicates the show’s creators are using their resources effectively. A tighter budget can encourage creativity, similar to how the original *Star Wars* films were made – and what ultimately helped make them so special.
The slightly lower budget for Season 2 might mean the show will concentrate more on the relationships between characters, especially how Ahsoka and Sabine Wren grow closer while stranded in Peridea. It also suggests we’ll see Ezra reconnect with some of his old friends from the Ghost crew, likely including Hera and Chopper, and potentially Zeb as well.
Just because the show might focus more on character development doesn’t mean *Ahsoka* Season 2 will lack excitement. Action will still be important to the overall *Star Wars* story. The creators are aiming to weave action sequences throughout the season, potentially building to a large-scale confrontation between the heroes and Thrawn in the final episodes.
The fact that *Ahsoka* had a lower budget is actually a positive sign. It fits with Disney’s current plan to cut costs on live-action Disney+ series, which increases the likelihood of the show getting renewed for another season.
