Okay, huge news for us Simpsons fans! Disney just announced that The Simpsons Movie 2 is actually happening! I can’t believe it! It’s scheduled to come out on July 23, 2027. The slightly weird part is it’s taking the spot that was originally planned for a Marvel movie, but honestly, I’m not complaining – more Simpsons is *always* a good thing! You can find more details here, but trust me, this is something we’ve all been waiting for!
Two decades after the release of the original Simpsons Movie, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are returning to cinemas. 20th Century Studios announced the news on Instagram, posting a picture of Homer’s hand reaching for a donut decorated with sprinkles in the shape of the number 2. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel for years, and it appears their wishes have finally been granted.
“Woohoo! The Simpsons will be back on the big screen with a brand-new movie on July 23, 2027!” the post announced.
The Simpsons Movie 2 takes new Marvel film’s spot
A previously scheduled, unnamed Marvel Cinematic Universe movie has been taken off Disney’s release calendar. This creates a year-long wait between the next two Avengers films: Avengers: Doomsday, coming December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for December 17, 2027.
The follow-up movie will also have to compete with another film in theaters. Warner Bros. plans to release its animated musical, Bad Fairies, on the same day – July 23, 2027.

The first Simpsons Movie came out in 2007 and was a huge hit, earning $536 million around the world. The story revolves around the Environmental Protection Agency enclosing Springfield in a dome after Homer accidentally contaminates the town’s water. It was a major success for the franchise.
Although Disney hasn’t shared details about the plot of The Simpsons Movie 2, the news is a significant milestone for the series. The Simpsons has stayed popular with audiences for many years thanks to its long run on television and its recent success with streaming services.
Everyone is eager to see if the new Springfield movie will be as successful as the original. And, while we’re hoping for that, it would be great if someone would also consider making a sequel to The Simpsons: Hit & Run, too.
