Dishonored Director Says Next Game Will Make Fans "Feel Very At Home"

As a veteran gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation when it comes to Raphael Colantonio’s new project. Having been instrumental in shaping the worlds of Dishonored and Prey, his return to the gaming scene is like a reunion with old friends. The fact that he’s promising an “uncompromised” experience for fans of those games has me on the edge of my seat.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share some fascinating tidbits about Raphael Colantonio. Back in 1999, he established Arkane Studios, where he spent an impressive 18 years, among other things, collaborating with Harvey Smith to create and direct the initial Dishonored masterpiece. Fast forward to 2017, he donned the director’s hat for Prey as well. That same year, he bid adieu to Arkane and embarked on a new journey leading an independent studio known as Wolf Eye. Their first venture together, Weird West, was unveiled in 2022. Now, Raphael and the team are brewing something fresh that I’m confident will delight fans of Dishonored and Prey alike.

To GI.biz, Colantonio stated, “Fans of Dishonored and Prey will find it incredibly familiar. It remains true to its roots without any concessions.

There isn’t a lot of information available yet about the nature of this game, but Colantonio hinted that it would feature aspects like player autonomy and decision-making through its RPG mechanics. The developer expressed that it is an ideal project for him and his team at this stage in their development process.

Although Colantonio has referenced Dishonored and Prey during discussions about the team’s new game, don’t assume that its gameplay will resemble these titles exactly. Instead, he is using them as examples to illustrate his vision for the game. When you finally get to play it, you may find that it reminds you of something entirely different.

Meanwhile, Weird West deviated from some people’s assumptions about Colantonio’s work. After departing from Arkane, he admitted that he wasn’t quite sure what he wanted, but he was certain he desired something smaller in scale. Weird West marked Wolf Eye’s initial venture, and he referred to it as a significant stepping stone for the company.

Following several years dedicated to crafting intricate, high-budget, single-player games, Colantonio expressed a refreshing sensation from creating something more low-key and stress-free.

We approach our games with an inherent financial risk, driven by our passion. The development of Weird West mirrored this mindset, albeit with significantly fewer resources and a reduced team size compared to other projects.

So far, we’ve only caught brief glimpses of the upcoming game from Wolf Eye. These have been presented as off-screen video clips and concept art. Officially, Wolf Eye refers to this game as a “first-person action role-playing game set in a retro sci-fi universe.” Stay tuned to TopMob for more updates.
