Discovery+ is increasing the price for both its ad-free and ad-supported tiers by $1.

Starting from Tuesday, the cost for the U.S. streaming service will be $5.99 per month for the ad-supported plan and $9.99 per month for the ad-free version. These prices take effect right away for new customers, while current subscribers won’t notice the increase until their billing cycle starting on or after February 7.

Discovery+ last increased the price of its ad-free plan in October 2023, bumping it up from $6.99 to $8.99. Prior to this adjustment, the cost for the ad-supported option had remained at $4.99 since Discovery+ was first launched in 2021.

Discovery+, a streaming service owned by Warner Bros. Discovery and sister channel to Max, is now promoting shows from its library such as “90 Day: The Last Resort,” “Moonshiners,” “Gold Rush,” “Evil Lives Here,” and “Home Town.” Additionally, new seasons of popular shows like “My 600-lb Life” (which premiered on Jan. 1), “Worst Cooks in America Celebrity Edition: Heroes vs. Villains” (airing on Jan. 5), “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: The Final Chapter” (aired on Jan. 6), and “Baylen Out Loud” (set to air on Jan. 13) are also being featured.

Warner Bros. Discovery has set up Discovery+ as a specialized streaming service focusing on its classic brands such as Food Network, TLC, HGTV, Discovery, ID, and others. Meanwhile, Max is the main platform for the extensive Warner Bros. library along with original content production. While both services offer similar content from Discovery, what’s available on Max isn’t found on Discovery+, but not the other way around. Essentially, Discovery+ offers a more affordable choice for viewers who prioritize lifestyle content over the broader collection of HBO and other offerings on Max.
