Worldwide theaters will soon be screening “Superboys of Malegaon,” a highly successful film from Amazon MGM Studios that initially made waves on the movie festival circuit.
In 2024, the Indian movie that earned recognition at Toronto, London, Palm Springs, and Red Sea film festivals will hit the screens in a grand multi-territory release spanning India, the United States, the United Kingdom, UAE, Australia, and New Zealand. Eventually, it’s going to make its way onto Prime Video for me, an ardent movie lover, to enjoy at my convenience.
Directed by renowned filmmaker Reema Kagti and written by Varun Grover, this movie portrays the real-life tale of Nasir Shaikh, an unassuming filmmaker hailing from the quaint Maharashtra town Malegaon. The story unfolds as Shaikh inspires his companions to produce local cinema for their community, providing a glimpse into how homegrown filmmaking can breathe life and change the soul of a small town.
Reema Kagti’s ‘Superboys of Malegaon’, as reviewed by Siddhant Aflakha for EbMaster, is a heartwarming crowd-pleaser that repeatedly emphasizes its relevance through its central message. This film consistently reinforces the notion that art should mirror people’s identities, not just because it’s desired, but because of a profound yearning born out of necessity, in order for them to live with dignity.
This project unites the powerhouses of filmmaking, Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby, under the guidance of experienced producers such as Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Kagti. The main cast consists of up-and-coming talents like Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, Shashank Arora, and Anuj Singh Duhan.
For Excel Entertainment, “Superboys” is another noteworthy addition to their impressive collection of successes, which includes critically-acclaimed films such as “Gully Boy”, India’s entry for the 2019 Oscars, and the Emmy-nominated series “Inside Edge.” Meanwhile, Tiger Baby Productions, under the guidance of Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, continues its streak of success with projects like “Made in Heaven” and “The Archies” to their credit.
The movie scheduled for release on February 28th will be available worldwide on Amazon Prime Video after its cinema premiere, allowing viewers from over 240 countries and territories to watch it.
