Discord leak suggests a full VPN feature is coming to Nitro

Discord seems to be preparing a significant new benefit for Nitro subscribers. Recent discoveries within the app indicate they’re developing their own VPN service.

I was checking out the latest Discord updates and noticed something cool! It looks like Discord is working on a new illustration – they’re calling it “VpnLaptopShieldBannerSpotIllustration” – and it popped up in the recent test builds. It’s neat to see little things like this as they’re being developed!

A recent image featuring a laptop and a shield icon has led many to believe Discord is working on a VPN or traffic-proxy feature that will be available to its Nitro subscribers.

Discord hasn’t officially said anything, but this new development aligns with their recent efforts to test out new features. They’ve been working on improvements like better security, updated safety warnings, and are even bringing back their Clyde AI bot in a limited way—all as part of a larger plan to update the platform.

Discord leak reveals potential VPN perk for Nitro

Bringing that level of security directly into Discord would eliminate the need for users to download extra apps, and could make the Nitro subscription more attractive. This is particularly helpful for streamers, content creators, and community moderators, who frequently use VPNs to hide their IP addresses and protect themselves from targeted harassment or to keep their location private when using public Wi-Fi.

Discord is developing a VPN service for its Nitro subscribers. This VPN will hide their internet activity by routing it through a different server. A new image, called ‘VpnLaptopShieldBannerSpotIllustration,’ has been added to the Discord app, likely related to this feature.

Currently, there’s no public evidence of this feature within Discord’s settings – no lists of servers or on/off switches are visible. Discord’s help pages even mention that using a VPN can mess with how prices are shown based on your location. If Discord is developing its own VPN, it would be a major addition to the Nitro subscription.
