Universal Pictures recently released the first trailer and posters for Steven Spielberg’s new film, Disclosure Day. Interestingly, the promotional materials heavily feature animals. Earlier this year, it was announced Spielberg was making a sci-fi movie about UFOs. However, the trailer doesn’t show many UFOs – instead, it’s full of unusual animals, leaving some fans puzzled.
The recently released trailer for Disclosure Day features animals appearing throughout. They’re first seen early on, in the second shot, and continue to appear until the very end, even in the final shot – often the most impactful moment in a trailer.

The animals are behaving very strangely, unlike anything you’d normally see. For instance, around the 5-second mark, a group of deer are seen standing outside a house, all staring directly at the character played by Josh O’Connor who is inside.

Later in the trailer, a cardinal appears inside the house, facing Emily Blunt’s character and looking directly at her.
The deer in the shot is a male, easily identified by its antlers. Both the buck and a cardinal reappear later in the trailer.

In the video, the deer enters the bedroom of a young girl. It walks right up to her as she sits by her bed. Then, a cardinal lands on one of the deer’s antlers.
Notably, a buck and a cardinal appear on the movie’s posters, but only as outlines rather than complete images. The posters feature the shapes of these animals, not the animals themselves.

The new poster featuring Emily Blunt (also starring in a big Disney film coming in 2026) shows only half of her face in clear focus. The rest of her face and the entire background are blurred. The only sharp detail is the shape of a cardinal.

The poster for Josh O’Connor’s character uses a deer silhouette to create a striking effect. His face is sharply in focus within the silhouette, while everything outside of it is intentionally blurred.
The trailer doesn’t explain what the animals represent or why they’re behaving oddly. However, because they’re so central to the promotional material, it’s obvious they’ll be very important to the story.
Interestingly, the deer in the trailer seem to be focusing on O’Connor’s character, which connects to the deer featured on his promotional poster. We see a similar pattern with Blunt’s character and a cardinal – the bird appears to her in the trailer, and then appears on her character poster as well.

Disclosure Day will be released on June 12, 2026.
Why Are the Animals Acting Strange In Disclosure Day Movie’s Trailer?
Now that the first trailer for Disclosure Day is out, fans are already trying to figure out why the animals are behaving so strangely. We won’t know for sure until the movie comes out, but a few popular theories are starting to emerge.
A common early idea about the animals’ strange behavior is that they’re controlled by some kind of supernatural force. This theory is supported by the trailer’s use of both animal and religious symbols. For example, a clear shot of a crucifix appears near the beginning, and later we see Catholic nuns.
The animals’ unusual behavior towards humans might be caused by a supernatural influence. Many cultures believe animals have a strong connection to the spiritual world, and often associate specific animals with symbolic meanings.
A popular idea emerging is that the animals are connected as part of a single, collective consciousness. It’s worth noting this project centers around UFOs and aliens, but the trailer didn’t actually show any spacecraft or beings. Instead, it’s possible that aliens are influencing or controlling the animals, rather than appearing directly to us.
It would be much easier for them to blend in with humanity if they infiltrated as animals, rather than appearing in their true form. People generally like and trust animals – especially common ones like deer or birds – so using animals as a disguise would be a logical way for aliens to approach us.
Interestingly, the trailer briefly showed a peculiar symbol in a field. Because symbols like this are often linked to UFOs and extraterrestrial life, it strengthens the idea that aliens might be controlling the animals featured in the story.
