Shadow of the Tomb Raider came out over seven years ago, and fans have been hoping for a new main installment ever since. While they’ve received updated versions of the original six games, many are anticipating news about the next big title, and there’s a good chance we’ll hear something at The Game Awards 2025.

Is a new Tomb Raider coming?

The brand shared a message yesterday – “Did you miss her? She missed you” – to build excitement for the TGA 2025 stream. During the stream, viewers will get an early look at what’s next for a beloved gaming series.

Players first noticed the clue in Fortnite on the TGA island, which lets users vote for their favorite content. A shadowy figure of Lara Croft appeared, holding two pistols. A closer look reveals details like a backpack and straps, suggesting she’ll be wearing a classic outfit from the earlier Tomb Raider games.

The announcement could be for something other than a game, like a new TV show. But fans would likely be disappointed if that were true. It’s much more probable that this short preview is our first glimpse of the next game in the series, which Crystal Dynamics first mentioned in 2022.

Details about the new Tomb Raider game are still limited. We do know it’s being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and will be published by Amazon Games. Unfortunately, Crystal Dynamics, the studio making the game, has had to lay off employees three times this year, which isn’t a good sign. Hopefully, the game’s reveal at The Game Awards 2025 will signal a positive turning point. The event is scheduled for Thursday.
