Did Stranger Things secretly spoil its own ending? Mike’s words could be the key

With only one episode left in Stranger Things, a recent speech by Mike has fans speculating about the show’s ending.

Okay, so things are seriously intense in Stranger Things right now! We’re definitely in the final stretch – everyone in Hawkins is trying to figure out how to stop Vecna, but he’s already put a curse on the kids that could literally destroy the world. It’s a race against time!

Everyone’s been guessing about who might die in the final episode of the show. This is partly because the creators, the Duffer brothers, haven’t been afraid to kill off popular characters in the past – like Barb, Bob, and Eddie Munson.

The creators have assured fans the series won’t end with a devastating and violent finale like ‘Game of Thrones’. They may have even subtly revealed the ending through the character of Mike, so be warned – spoilers may follow…

If Mike’s to be believed, Stranger Things will end at a waterfall

In the first chapter of Stranger Things season 5, Mike and Eleven have a sweet moment where they dream about the future and what life will be like after Eleven finally defeats Vecna.

Mike explains to Eleven that in his Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, when the characters win, they all get a happy ending. Typically, they don’t go back home because they’ve changed too much from their adventures. Instead, they journey to a distant, serene place – somewhere lovely with natural wonders, like a few waterfalls – and begin new lives together.

Mike acknowledges that finding three waterfalls might be a stretch, but he wonders if defeating Vecna is truly the solution, asking, “If Vecna’s defeated, what could possibly stand in our way?”

In Chapter 5, Mike reaffirms their plan to escape. He reminds Eleven that the military will constantly search for her, which is why they’re leaving Hawkins once everything is settled. They’ll head to a distant place—a place where they can’t be found, ideally somewhere with a waterfall, as they’ve always discussed.

Will the final scene of Stranger Things show Mike and Eleven together by a waterfall, or will it feature three characters? The creators, the Duffer brothers, have revealed they’ve had the ending in mind for a long time, even saying they’ve been envisioning the last ten minutes of the show for years. Is this a hint about how the series will conclude?

Eleven is hesitant, pointing out to her friend that real life isn’t like one of their Dungeons & Dragons games where you control the outcome. However, she acknowledges that every part of their lives has felt like a campaign, so maybe they can shape what happens. Mike agrees, saying that while he doesn’t write the ending, perhaps they all do, because it’s their story to tell.

If the last scene isn’t filmed near a waterfall, it might be at an Italian restaurant. During that same episode in Season 5, while being chased by Demodogs, Robin mentions Enzo’s and tells Vickie that if they both make it out alive, she’ll take her there for dessert!
