Dexter: Resurrection finds the main character, a serial killer, starting a new life in New York after unexpectedly surviving the events of the previous series, New Blood. However, the creators recently shared that the show almost took place in a different location.
Dexter (Michael C. Hall) finds himself back with his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), in New York City. At the same time, he’s uncovering a hidden group of serial killers who gather annually to share their methods and details of their crimes.
The new Dexter series on Paramount+ has been better received than its predecessor, Dexter: New Blood, achieving a 95% rating from critics and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, many fans are still disappointed that the show, Dexter: Original Sin, was canceled after just one season.
Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection is coming soon. However, the show’s creators, Clyde Phillips and Scott Reynolds, recently shared that Dexter almost ended up living somewhere else entirely.
Dexter almost lived in a fancy apartment building, not Blessing’s house

Though Dexter spends much of the series hunting serial killers in New York, a significant part of his growth happens through his relationship with Blessing Kamara (played by Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine). Blessing, a fellow driver with a heartbreaking history as a child soldier, rents Dexter an apartment and becomes a friend.
The plot gave Dexter a chance to confront difficult experiences from his past, specifically regarding his son, and they were ultimately able to rebuild their connection. Interestingly, the show’s creator revealed they almost had Dexter living in an apartment building made entirely of glass.
Originally, we envisioned Dexter living in a glass apartment with a view of the city, and Blessing was also part of the narrative, but they weren’t a couple,” Reynolds explained to Final Draft.

The contrast between light and darkness, and the fact that Dexter could always hear life happening above him while he lived in the quiet darkness of the basement, was a really striking way to begin the show.
Phillips explained that Dexter would have been the building manager, not a ride-share driver. This would have significantly altered the show’s structure, as his driving job provided a convenient cover for his secret life as a serial killer.
Ultimately, things turned out well, and you can find updates on the potential Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection while you wait for the next episodes. You might also enjoy revisiting the earlier Dexter prequel series if you haven’t seen it.
