Ahead of the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2, one of the film’s stars has responded to a frequently asked question about Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep). The new Disney film, a sequel arriving 20 years after the original, reunites Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci in their iconic roles. In The Devil Wears Prada 2, Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, is once again working for the intimidating Miranda Priestly at Runway magazine.
Many viewers were confused by a detail in the second trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2: Miranda Priestly didn’t seem to remember Andy, even though they had worked closely together for months in the original movie.
In a scene from the second movie’s trailer, Andy returns to the Runway offices and is met with a surprised “Who is this?” from Miranda. Miranda then asks Nigel if she knows Andy, to which he replies that Andy was one of her former assistants. Miranda presses for clarification, asking, “One of the what?”
Later in the trailer, Emily (played by Blunt) recognizes Andy and points out to Miranda, “We worked at Runway together.” Miranda, seemingly unable to remember Andy, replies, “Really? Where was I?”

Ever since the trailer was released, fans have wondered why Miranda doesn’t recognize Andy. Stanley Tucci recently discussed this during an interview with Fandango, suggesting it’s a key plot point that they’re trying to keep secret. He was careful with his words, saying they weren’t sure how much they could reveal about Miranda’s memory. Tucci praised Meryl Streep’s acting and explained that the movie will leave it “up to the audience to decide” what’s really going on.
The brilliance of Meryl’s acting lies in the ambiguity – it’s unclear whether her character truly remembers or not, leaving it up to the viewers to interpret for themselves.
Tucci’s reluctance to discuss Miranda’s possible memory problems implies this storyline will be explored in The Devil Wears Prada 2, and could be central to the plot. While he notes Meryl Streep’s performance in a sequel might leave some questions unanswered, it seems viewers will be left to decide for themselves if Miranda is being truthful about remembering Andy.
I’m so excited! It’s finally happening – The Devil Wears Prada 2 is hitting theaters on May 1st! What’s even better is that they’ve brought back the original writer, Aline Brosch McKenna, and director, David Frankel. Plus, the cast is getting some great additions with Kenneth Branagh, Justin Theroux, and Simone Ashley joining in. I can’t wait to see it!
Does Miranda Really Remember Andy In Devil Wears Prada 2?

Some viewers have wondered if Miranda’s inability to remember Andy is due to genuine amnesia or early-stage dementia, considering her age. However, it’s more probable that her forgetfulness is simply a reflection of her personality and typical behavior, rather than a medical condition.
In The Devil Wears Prada, Miranda Priestly controlled her workplace through a frighteningly direct and detached approach, always appearing superior to everyone around her.
Throughout the movie, Miranda repeatedly called Andy by the wrong name, often using ‘Emily.’ However, when she finally addressed Anne Hathaway’s character as ‘Andrea,’ it happened during key moments that showed their relationship was improving, suggesting Miranda was beginning to accept Andy.
Some believe Miranda’s apparent dismissal of Andy in the second film shows how their relationship has changed since the first. They see it as Miranda deliberately acting like Andy is unimportant – even forgetting their history – to firmly reassert her power over her.
However, this tension was established even before the movie concluded. Andy demonstrated her principles by resigning from her job at Runway, prioritizing her values over the kind of person she was becoming.
At the end of the first movie, Andy sees Miranda on the street and waves. Miranda looks back, but doesn’t respond and gets into her car. As she drives away, though, she secretly smiles at Andy.
Meryl Streep’s performance left things deliberately ambiguous, letting viewers decide for themselves how Miranda truly felt about Andy.
Most people felt that Miranda actually liked Andy, especially since she gave her a good reference. However, Miranda would never openly admit it, and it fit her personality to pretend she didn’t care.
Considering their difficult history and how much Andy influenced Miranda during her time as an assistant, Miranda’s return to Runway in a potential Devil Wears Prada 2 could stir up painful memories. However, Miranda would never reveal any vulnerability, so her claim of not remembering Andy might simply be a way to hide their shared past.
