The recent Ash & Iron update for Destiny 2 introduced a lot of powerful new weapons, and MIDA Macro Tool is currently making shotguns especially effective in player-versus-player combat.
This powerful weapon excels in close-range combat and works exceptionally well with the MIDA Multi-Tool rifle. However, it’s so effective by itself that you don’t even need to use them together.
Macro Tool is particularly strong because it fits a powerful playstyle and benefits from incredibly effective perk combinations in player-versus-player combat.

As you’d expect, the best upgrades for a powerful Macro Tool focus on increasing its range. Combining Smoothbore, a Range Masterwork, with Accurized Rounds can give you a total range stat of over 80.
Okay, so you can really amp up this ability with Slideshot and Opening Shot – honestly, for most players, that’s going to be the best all-around choice. I tried out Threat Detector instead of Slideshot, but I found Slideshot just consistently got me more kills because it boosted my range, making it way more reliable.
Even though it’s not the best for player-versus-environment combat, this weapon is worth checking out for close-combat builds if you can find one with the “Grave Robber” and “One-Two Punch” perks. These perks create a powerful and fun gameplay style with automatic reloads and boosted melee damage.
How to get MIDA Macro Tool
The MIDA Macro Tool is currently only available through completing Crucible Operations. The good news is that any activity within the Crucible playlist will give you a chance to earn it, so you don’t have to keep playing the same mode repeatedly. Like other weapons exclusive to the Portal, you’ll have a better chance of getting the shotgun when it’s specifically listed as a reward.
