In Destiny 2, the capacity of the Strange Coin cap is going up due to numerous requests from the community, however, you’ll need to be patient before you can enjoy this change.
According to the TWID published on January 9, 2025, the limit for Strange Coins has been raised from 99 to 199. This means you’ll have the opportunity to accumulate more and use them extensively when Xur visits over the weekend.
Unfortunately, the much-anticipated update won’t go live immediately, as Bungie has confirmed it will be included in Heresy Act 1. The next episode is scheduled for release on February 4, 2024, which means you’ll have to exercise patience and wait a few weeks before the update becomes available.
Good news! With this update, the maximum limit for Nightfall and Osirian Ciphers will rise from 10 to 30. The enhancement to the Trials of Osiris in Episode Heresy includes this as one of several modifications to be made, described as “one of many” changes.

Discussions about the new design on the Strange Coin cap have been buzzing within our community ever since The Final Shape update rolled out. With this latest version, Xur was revamped and now primarily uses Strange Coins as his currency. However, the implemented limit on these coins has led to a wave of discontent among users.
There have been numerous Reddit posts expressing dissatisfaction about this issue. One post from when the update was launched seven months ago questioned, “Why are we restricted to only 99 Strange Coins?!” while another post from October 2024 expressed a similar sentiment, saying, “Could we possibly raise the limit for Strange Coins?
As I pen this down in early January, my passion for change remains unwavering. I’ve found myself echoing the voice of one Guardian who asserted, “It’s high time we lifted the limit on exotic coins or simply made Xur a permanent vendor.” This ardent advocate believes that the present system unfairly disadvantages those who can’t play on weekends.
All the proposals garnered strong support from the community, earning more than a thousand ‘thumbs-up’ votes apiece, demonstrating the high level of interest in this subject matter. Eventually, Bungie seems to have taken note of the extensive positive feedback and finally implemented the necessary modifications.
