Destiny 2 is experiencing its lowest player count ever. Currently, fewer people are playing the game than at any other point since its launch.
October 6, 2025 was a significant day for Bungie, but unfortunately not for positive reasons. Their popular online game, Destiny 2, hit a record low in player engagement.
The game recently hit its lowest point in player activity on Steam, with a peak of just 16,067 concurrent players in a 24-hour period. At its lowest, the game only had 2,323 players online at the same time – the fewest ever recorded.
This information only covers Steam players and doesn’t include those on consoles. It also leaves out players of Destiny Rising, the mobile game, which has actually received more updates and support lately than the main game.

Destiny 2 records new all-time low player count on Steam
The game recently hit a new low of 16,067 players online at the same time within a 24-hour period. This is just slightly above the previous low point, which happened during the quietest part of the ‘Revenant’ event earlier this year.
Following the conclusion of the popular Light and Darkness storyline with The Final Shape in early 2024, player interest has decreased. The first expansion of the new storyline, Edge of Fate, didn’t generate the same excitement. It peaked at 98,211 players on Steam, which is significantly lower than the 314,634 players who played The Final Shape on its launch day.
Bungie has been making ongoing changes to the game to try and keep players engaged, but these efforts haven’t been successful. One recent update, the Portal system which replaced the Director for navigating the game, hasn’t been well-received and seems to be pushing players away instead.
Destiny 2 players can look forward to a major new expansion called Renegades, launching on December 2, 2025. This expansion will heavily feature elements from Star Wars, including familiar imagery and locations, and will tell a story inspired by the classic films. Whether this new content will revitalize the game remains to be seen.
