Over the past summer, SAG-AFTRA advocated for a voice acting strike against video game publishers due to multiple concerns, including AI protection matters. Despite the union reaching agreements with several publishers, the strike continues. Now, it’s been verified that the forthcoming Destiny 2: Heresy expansion will feature some dialogue-less scenes because an agreement with the actors remains elusive.
As a gamer, I recently learned from Bungie’s official site that some voiceovers in Destiny 2 were left unrecorded due to actor strikes. To keep the story flowing, they’ve decided to turn on subtitles by default for those scenes. Additionally, any Heresy activities lacking voiceovers will display a warning on-screen before you dive in. Unfortunately, there’s no info yet on whether these lines will be added back once the strike is over.
On Bluesky, Orchid – a voice actor – expressed their reaction to the recent news, emphasizing their wish for a reasonable agreement that adequately tackles their artificial intelligence-related issues.
For those expressing dissatisfaction: We’re still on the picket line. We yearn to work, yet until we secure a just agreement that addresses our concerns about AI and other matters, we won’t. I regret that this may disrupt your gaming experience, but please understand that it’s equally crucial for us to meet our basic needs like paying rent and buying groceries. [Image or Embed]

In addition to Destiny 2, it appears that several other games, including Hideo Kojima’s upcoming projects like OD and Physint, are encountering similar issues. These games are currently facing difficulties in recording the necessary dialogue from their actors.
Regarding Destiny 2, the Heresy expansion kicks off on February 4, taking players back to the Dreadnaught. The Heresy expansion also includes a new dungeon called Sundered Doctrine, as well as a partnership with Star Wars that introduces items such as gear, armor ornaments, accessories, emotes, and finishers inspired by iconic characters from the Star Wars Empire like the Death Troopers and Imperial Guards.
