As a diehard Destiny 2 enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the latest episode, Heresy, which has introduced an exciting new method for acquiring loot! Instead of our usual quests, we’re venturing back to the Dreadnaught, orbiting the mighty Saturn, in search of hidden secrets and exclusive rewards tucked away in the Nether. Here’s a rundown on how it works and how you can score some top-secret loot stashes!
Limited revives, ammo and health regen
In delves, unlike other activities, player groups will encounter limitations on revives and health regeneration, which means players don’t automatically recover health after being out of combat for a certain period. Instead, enemies will drop orbs that restore health, while healing effects like Support Frame auto rifles, Warlock Healing Rifts, and the Void Devour buff can still be active. Additionally, special and heavy ammo drops are scarce in this activity and can only be influenced by weapon perks, armor mods, or shooting breakable objects to find more ammo.
How to complete objectives in the Nether
When a player initially enters the Nether, they’ll see goals such as “Destroy Weapon Systems” displayed on their Heads-Up Display (HUD). At first, it might not be clear what these tasks entail, but once they draw their Ghost, the HUD will highlight a diamond symbol indicating the location of the next objective. Typically, these objectives are safeguarded by an enemy with a health bar that is yellow and has a name and a brief task nearby.
Goals may vary, such as gathering items or battling mini-bosses, based on the goals randomly assigned for that playthrough. These objectives could be any of the listed options, or a mix of them.
- Defend an objective by standing on plates or marked areas and defeating waves of incoming enemies that culminate in a miniboss.
- Depositing relics that come from floating objects scattered around the room into a receptacle like a statue. These are marked on the HUD.
- Popping large orange spores that glow. Typically, these are on walls and corners and they glow bright orange and pulsate. Players can deal damage to these with any weapon.
- Defeating a large Tormentor boss protected by a small objective like destroying Taken Blights or picking up Resonance nodes.
First, accomplish the task and afterwards gather rewards and treasures after each smaller task. Once all three sub-tasks are done, the boss becomes weakened. Typically, the boss has invincible phases where players must either find or destroy something in the battlefield to make the boss vulnerable once more. The Nether journey concludes with defeating the boss, and loot is obtained from the final chest at the end.
How to find secret loot in the Nether
As an avid explorer in the Nether, I’ve stumbled upon numerous hidden treasures and unique collectibles tucked away here and there. From nooks and secret chambers, chests are hidden all over the location, offering rewards such as materials for the Tome of Desire, a seasonal armor piece, or a seasonal weapon. Here is an overview of what you can potentially find in Act 1’s chests:
- Any piece of Apostate’s Blade armor; Arms, chest, legs, or class item.
- Adamantite, a Strand Support Frame auto rifle.
- Psychopomp, an Area Denial Frame grenade launcher.
- Abyssal Edge, a Wave Frame heavy sword.
In addition, you may encounter Metastasized Essentia nodes, which appear as large, black and white spiked orbs, within the H.E.L.M. These can be collected to gather materials for crafting the Shaping Mirror in Eris’ residence. Upon collection, they initially manifest as Fleeting Metastasized Essentia.
In the Nether, these items might disappear if you run out of Revives or get disconnected during a run. However, at the end of a Nether run, they transform into Metastasized Essentia which can be saved for later use. To receive your reward, take 10 Essentia to Eris Morn’s apartment, which is identified by a small stone pillar with a black orb and a shelf next to it. This location resembles a black orb in a small stone pillar near a shelf, located next to a shelf. Upon delivering the stack of 10 Essentia here, you will be rewarded as specified.
- At least two reprised weapons
- A stack of 10 Essence of Desire
- Enhancement Cores and or Enhancement Prisms
To discover strategies for amassing more rewards during Episode Heresy, explore the correct use of the Shaping Slab and Tome of Want for gear customization and additional bonuses in the Nether. Additionally, you can find our top recommendations for Destiny 2 Heresy builds tailored to each class.
