Denzel Washington Gets Baptized and Receives Minister License After Saying ‘It’s Not Fashionable’ to Be Religious in Hollywood: ‘It’s Not Sexy’

As a seasoned movie buff with decades of experiencing immersing myself into the world of film, I must say that Denzel Washington‘s recent baptism and minister licensing ceremony has left me truly inspired and humbled. Being privy to his journey as an actor, a public figure, and now as a man of faith, I can’t help but admire his unwavering commitment to his beliefs and the courage it takes to stand tall amidst Hollywood’s ever-changing tides.

On Saturday, Denzel Washington received baptism and was given a minister’s license at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ, situated in New York City’s Harlem district (as reported by People). The event, broadcast live on Facebook, occurred a few weeks following Washington’s statement during the “Gladiator II” press tour that spirituality in Hollywood is not trendy. With this new minister’s license, the Academy Award-winning actor can potentially be ordained in the future.

At the gathering, Washington remarked that next week marks his 70th birthday. After waiting for quite some time, he’s finally made it. If God can bring me to this point, there’s nothing He can’t accomplish for you. The possibilities are truly endless.

At Denzel Washington’s baptism, his wife, Pauletta Washington, stood by his side. With great emotion, she expressed her pride at being present for this significant milestone in his spiritual journey. She struggled to hold back tears as she spoke.

Forty-six years on, I’m right here by his side, as fate would have it, Pauletta remarked. So, I’m incredibly proud of you. You’re the leader of our family and you’ve truly set an admirable example for our grown children, who are wise because we’ve shown them what makes a difference.

In an interview with Esquire for their November issue, Washington expressed that openly displaying one’s religiosity isn’t socially trendy within Hollywood circles. He further clarified that just because it may lack appeal or be considered ‘sexy’, it doesn’t mean that people in Hollywood don’t hold personal religious beliefs.

As a child, I simply repeated phrases about God in church alongside everyone else. However, what I now comprehend is that God truly exists, embodies love, and represents the one genuine path. I am called to elevate Him, offer Him praise, and ensure that every person I engage with for the remainder of my life recognizes His role as the guiding force in my life.

When you look at me, you’re seeing the best I can offer, given the gifts I’ve been granted by my deity. I’m fearless. My opinions don’t hinge on other people’s perceptions,” he further mentioned. “Notice, when it comes to expressing fear, one can’t speak that way and expect accolades like Oscars. One can’t talk that way and socialize in this circle. Such sentiments aren’t welcomed here.

It’s anticipated that Washington will receive an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor due to his role in “Gladiator 2”. Visit People’s website for further details on the actor’s recent baptism ceremony.
