As a seasoned gamer with decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and anticipation as Delta Force, a franchise that’s been part of my gaming journey since its inception, is back with an Open Beta in December. The fusion of Battlefield and Escape from Tarkov elements promises a unique blend that I’m eager to dive into.

In December, the famed unit once known as Delta Force: Hawk Ops, now simply referred to as Delta Force, will make its entrance via Open Beta. This upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter is freely accessible to all gamers, offering a unique blend of Battlefield and Escape from Tarkov gameplay dynamics, along with a captivating single-player narrative.

Delta Force, which dates back to 1998 and is recognized as one of the longest-standing first-person shooter (FPS) series, has resurfaced after a decade-long hiatus. Originally seen in 2009 with Delta Force: Xtreme 2, it now returns as a multiplayer shooter that can be played for free.

In addition to a revamped version of the 2003 Black Hawk Down campaign, Delta Force offers massive battlefields akin to Battlefield, as well as an extraction mode reminiscent of Tarkov. The game has undergone a closed alpha testing phase and some technical trials, but now it’s open for all players to try out, thanks to the Open Beta.

On Thursday, the 5th of December, you can expect the open beta for Delta Force to commence. At this moment, the specific starting time remains uncertain, but rest assured, we’ll keep you updated once more details are confirmed.

When does the beta end?

The beta version of the game will not close down. Instead, it serves as a preliminary release before the full-scale launch on consoles and mobiles, scheduled for early 2025. Everything from this phase will be transferred to the final product.

anticipate regular updates as the beta progresses towards release, with developers planning a significant overhaul every three months, as well as frequent improvements to gameplay mechanics and quality-of-life adjustments. Additionally, they intend to merge all Operations maps into a single expansive open world, but development on this project will commence in 2025.

How to play Delta Force Open Beta

To play, simply look for the Delta Force’s store page on Steam or the Epic Games Store. You’ll be able to download it for free and play as soon as it’s live, but you can also wishlist it to get a notification. 

Delta Force Open Beta platforms

The Delta Force Open Beta can currently be accessed exclusively through a PC. However, console and mobile versions are planned for release in the first quarter of 2025, but for now, the Open Beta caters only to PC users.

Game modes

In simple terms, during the open beta phase of Delta Force, you’ll get a chance to play both Havoc Warfare and Hazard Operations game modes. The highly anticipated single-player Black Hawk Down campaign will be released later on, following the conclusion of the beta.

Essentially, Havoc Warfare represents a massive multiplayer Battlefield-style gameplay with two teams consisting of thirty-two players each, known as Hazard Operations. As the open beta progresses, additional modes are likely to be introduced.

Is there controller support?

During the beta phase, Delta Force doesn’t currently offer controller support, but rest assured, it’s in development and scheduled to be added shortly. For now, you’ll need to use a mouse and keyboard, but keep an eye out for the addition of controller support before the console launch.
