Delivery robot goes viral as people want to “destroy” it by jumping on top

A delivery robot in Philadelphia became an internet sensation when people started jumping on it and jokingly encouraged others to damage it as it made its rounds.

In recent years, delivery companies have been experimenting with innovative methods to get your orders to you. In some parts of the US, drones are now delivering packages directly to people’s yards, and many areas are seeing sidewalk delivery robots becoming a common sight.

It’s really frustrating to see, but people are constantly messing with these robots! They often flip them over and even try to steal things from inside – it’s a shame, honestly.

Sometimes, these robots are damaged beyond repair. For example, one in Florida was completely destroyed when it got caught in the path of a fast-moving train.

Food delivery robot targeted in Philadelphia

In Philadelphia, photographer Hugh Dillon filmed people attempting to vandalize a robot.

A woman shouted, “Throw it! I want to throw it!” just before a man sat down on top of a delivery robot. As the robot moved across the street toward a person named Dillon, he saw a message written on its surface.

“Destroy me plz,” was written on the front of the robot in blue ink.

The viral video sparked debate, with some people understanding why others want the robots removed, saying they create problems for people walking.

One person complained that the robots are lifeless, obstruct walkways, and are taking work away from human delivery drivers. Another warned that having robots operating near bars on a busy Saturday night could lead to problems.

Someone else said they’d prefer this method deliver their food, adding that at least it wouldn’t stop working just because of a small tip. Another person chimed in, sympathizing and saying the device really needs more protection.

In the United Kingdom, a councilwoman’s dog had a near miss with one of the robots, almost being run over.
