This fall, Kojima Productions announced an anime movie based on the game Death Stranding, called Death Stranding: Mosquito. But that’s not all – Hideo Kojima, the creator of Death Stranding, has also confirmed that an anime series is in development and will be available on Disney+.
Hideo Kojima and director Takayuki Sano revealed their new animated series at Hong Kong Disneyland. Currently titled ‘Death Stranding Isolations,’ the show will be traditionally animated in 2D. E&H production is handling the animation, and character designer Ilya Kuvshinov (known for ‘Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045′) created the concept art, which offers a first look at the series’ main characters.

Although the show isn’t directly connected to the game, the story mentions Norman Reedus’ character, Sam Bridges, and suggests the main character holds a secret resentment towards him.
Across North America, while Sam Bridges journeys to reconnect a fractured nation, others struggle with isolation in their own ways. One man seeks redemption outside of Bridges’ methods, a fierce woman aims to rebuild a world of endless conflict, a young boy harbors resentment towards Bridges, and a girl finds solace in solitude. As humanity faces extinction, their paths collide, launching a new chapter in the world of Death Stranding.
Fans can look forward to ‘Death Stranding: Isolations’ coming to Disney+ in 2027. While there’s no confirmed release date yet for the animated film ‘Death Stranding: Mosquito,’ it’s being directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto of ABC Animation Studio, with a screenplay by Aaron Guzikowski.
Hideo Kojima, the creator of Death Stranding, decided not to direct the upcoming live-action movie adaptation. Michael Sarnoski will direct the film, with A24 handling production. The latest installment in the game series, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, came out earlier in 2024.
