As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for all things horrifying and a soft spot for Junji Ito’s chilling masterpieces, I can barely contain my excitement about Dead by Daylight‘s upcoming crossover! This collaboration is not just a game-changer, but a heart-stopper that brings together the best of both worlds.
In an exciting development, Dead by Daylight is set to collaborate with the chilling works of renowned horror manga artist Junji Ito, known for his spine-tingling comics that have left readers sleepless for generations.
Over time, Dead by Daylight is steadily growing into the most expansive horror crossover series ever created. Games like Mortal Kombat and their additional content simply can’t compare to the title that unites characters such as Sadako (from The Ring), Vecna (Dungeons & Dragons), and Leon S. Kennedy (Resident Evil) under one roof.
During a livestream on the official Dead by Daylight YouTube channel called “Doomed Course,” it was announced that the game will soon feature eight distinct skins for existing Killers and Survivors, inspired by characters from various mangas of Junji Ito. This collaboration is scheduled to launch on January 7, 2025.
In Dead by Daylight, the special Junji Ito collection brings two legendary costumes: one for the Artist character who takes on the appearance of Fuchi, originally seen in the story “Fashion Model”, and another for the Spirit character transforming into Tomie, a character from the series “Painter”. Additionally, these outfits will come with distinctive sounds that have been especially created for this collaboration.
Six additional ensembles are designed as follows: One costume resembles the main character from Souichi’s Selfish Curse, portraying the Trickster; another is inspired by The Story of the Mysterious Tunnel and represents the Dredge; lastly, the Twins’ costumes mimic the beastly characters from The Strange Hikizuri Siblings.
In addition to their survival rewards, here’s how some characters will be styled: Kate will embody the House of the Marionettes, while sporting an attire reminiscent of Tomie from a Photograph; and Yun Jin will take on the appearance of Terumi from The Hanging Balloons.
It’s possible that Junji Ito could be considered one of the most remarkable horror comic artists ever. Despite some difficulties in adapting his works, his artistry seems perfectly suited for a video game.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that our hosts recently unveiled a collaboration project featuring Junji Ito’s work! We can’t wait to see his response, which we’ll be sharing in the coming year. Here’s hoping he appreciates the way our characters have been portrayed and doesn’t mimic the screams his own characters are known for in his graphic novels!
