Dead by Daylight confirms Stranger Things Chapter 2 with big killer mystery

Dead by Daylight is getting a brand new Stranger Things chapter! After a long wait, players will once again be able to experience the world of Hawkins within the game, and it’s perfectly timed with the release of the show’s fifth season.

For a long time, Dead by Daylight players anticipated the return of Stranger Things content. The original chapter launched in 2019 but was removed in 2021 because of licensing. After many months of speculation, it came back in 2023, boosting interest in a game that had been focused on fixing matchmaking, improving performance, and balancing gameplay for both survivors and killers.

So, after a rough patch with some delays and buggy updates, Behaviour Interactive basically mapped out how they wanted to get things back on track by 2026. A big part of that plan was fixing relationships with partners and earning back our trust. Honestly, bringing Stranger Things back was at the top of my wishlist, but it was still up in the air whether they could actually make it happen.

Stranger Things returns, and no one even had to enter the Upside Down

Behaviour Interactive has confirmed the next chapter of Stranger Things in Dead by Daylight, with a planned release in January 2026. The update will add a new killer, a new survivor, and a new map to the game. A brief teaser released on X (formerly Twitter) strongly suggests that Vecna will be the new killer, as fans quickly recognized his distinctive silhouette.

This situation is strange because Dead by Daylight previously featured a character very similar to Vecna – known as The Lich – in its Dungeons & Dragons chapter. Players have pointed out the overlap, and many feel we already have enough powerful, magic-using characters in the game.

The studio shared that they originally planned to release Chapter 2 sooner, but they changed their plans when they needed to focus on improving the game’s stability and fixing important technical problems. This extra time allowed the team to address some long-standing issues before starting work on a collaboration fans had been asking for.

Stranger Things is back in Dead by Daylight with a definite release plan, but that’s not the only exciting news for fans. Fortnite is also updating its Stranger Things characters to show them as adults, and McDonald’s is releasing a special Stranger Things-themed menu.
