DCU’s Fan-Favorite Bruce Wayne Choice Is Already Getting Called Batman In The Streets

Even though The Brave and the Bold is still being made, fans are already enthusiastically supporting one actor to play Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe. The first chapter of the new DC Universe, “Gods and Monsters,” will finally introduce Batman to Gunn’s superhero world, and audiences have already begun suggesting their favorite actors for the part.

Brandon Sklenar, who’s publicly said he’d love to play Batman in the DC Universe, was recently asked on the TODAY show about rumors he might be cast in the role. He admitted it would be a dream come true, recalling an experience while working in Spain where a passerby actually called him “Batman!”

The celebrity said they’re still amazed by the reaction, noting you never fully grasp how far things can reach. They also expressed deep gratitude for the support they’ve received, adding that fulfilling a particular dream would be incredibly surreal.

I’m really excited about The Brave and The Bold! It’s still in the writing stages, and DC Studios is figuring out exactly how they want to portray Batman for the new DCU. Andy Muschietti is directing that first part of the story, which they’re calling ‘Gods and Monsters.’ I recently read an interview with Sklenar from April 2025 – our friends at ScreenRant did it – and he talked about whether he and James Gunn had discussed the role at all.

I’d love to play Batman, honestly! [laughs] It’s a dream role I’ve had since childhood, and it’s funny because I’ve never actually said that out loud before. The possibility just kind of emerged, and I thought, ‘This is amazing!’ Hopefully, it will become a reality someday.

I’d be thrilled to take on that role. Playing that particular character has always been a dream of mine. If I ever worked on a superhero project, that’s exactly the kind of thing I’d want to do.

ScreenRant: Has anyone…? [makes phone call gesture]

I think people are starting to recognize my work a little bit, which is great. I know a potential opportunity like that is still a ways off, but honestly, it’s really exciting! Both the kid I used to be and the adult I am now think it would be awesome, and I have a lot of thoughts on how it could work. It would just be a really cool experience.

According to Gunn, getting the casting and story right for Batman is DC Studios’ top priority. They won’t begin searching for actors for The Brave and The Bold until the script is finished.

The DC Universe is planning to introduce Gotham City on screen before Batman himself appears. An R-rated movie focusing on the classic Batman villain, Clayface, is scheduled for release on September 11, 2026.

DC Studios has yet to set a release date for The Brave and the Bold.
