DCU Project ‘Paradise Lost’ Is Reportedly “Dead”

Even though James Gunn’s DC Universe just began with the release of Superman in theaters, its future feels uncertain. The film’s box office results weren’t as strong as hoped, and with Netflix planning to buy Warner Bros., things are even more unstable. Now, reports indicate that one of the major projects announced when Gunn and Peter Safran took charge of DC Studios in 2022 has been cancelled.

Originally planned as part of the first phase of the DC Universe (“Gods and Monsters”), the series Paradise Lost was meant to showcase Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s home. James Gunn compared it to Game of Thrones, but many questioned why they would introduce the location before the hero herself. Now, according to industry insider John Rocha, the show has been cancelled.

I’m hearing from sources that DC was previously in talks with writers and accepting proposals for a ‘Paradise Lost’ TV show, but the project has now been cancelled. It’s not just on hold – it’s completely off the table and won’t be moving forward.

Writers and storytellers who were working on the ‘Paradise Lost’ project have been informed it’s been cancelled and is no longer in development. This is significant news, especially considering many found it strange to create a show set in Themyscira without including Wonder Woman.

What’s Going on With the DCU Wonder Woman Reboot?

Warner Bros.

It’s still unclear if James Gunn’s new DC Universe (DCU) will actually move forward as planned, but Wonder Woman is definitely going to be part of it. While there was talk of Gal Gadot reprising her role and Patty Jenkins directing a third Wonder Woman movie, that won’t happen. Instead, Wonder Woman will be reimagined with a new cast and story, similar to what’s planned for Superman.

We still don’t know who will play Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe, but Ana Nogueira, who wrote the Supergirl script, is writing the reboot’s screenplay. Details are being kept secret, and although James Gunn previously hinted at a link between the new Wonder Woman and the Paradise Lost project, that connection may have changed.
