DC’s Most Divisive Movie Now Streaming on Prime Video

A DC movie known for sparking a lot of debate among fans is now streaming on Prime Video.

What DC movie is now streaming on Prime Video?

The sequel to the popular 2019 film Joker, titled Joker: Folie à Deux, is now streaming on Prime Video. Directed by Todd Phillips, the movie generated a lot of buzz before its release, but audiences had very different reactions to it.

Okay, so this movie… it really flopped at the box office, making only around $207.5 million worldwide. Considering it cost between $190 and $200 million to make, that’s a pretty big disappointment. Critics weren’t kind either – it only has a 31% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But, believe it or not, it does have some high-profile fans! I was surprised to learn that Quentin Tarantino actually praised it, and even Francis Ford Coppola was on its side. It’s cool when respected directors see something others don’t, right?

Joaquin Phoenix returns as Arthur Fleck/The Joker in the new film, alongside Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beetz, Steve Coogan, Harry Lawtey, and Leigh Gill.

Released in October 2019, the first Joker film was a huge success for Warner Bros. Pictures, earning about $1.079 billion worldwide on a budget of around $55 million. The film received many Academy Award nominations, and Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor while Hildur Guðnadóttir took home the award for Best Original Score.

Initially, Joker was planned as a one-time movie. But in June 2022, director Todd Phillips confirmed a sequel was in development. Joker: Folie à Deux will exist separately from the new DC Universe being created by James Gunn and Peter Safran, which will begin with the animated series Creature Commandos this December.

Todd Phillips and Scott Silver, the writers of the first Joker movie, also collaborated on the screenplay for the sequel.
