Filming has finished on the upcoming Clayface movie, a horror-thriller that’s a unique addition to the new DC Universe lineup. Directed by James Watkins (known for Speak No Evil) and written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, the movie tells the origin story of the villain Clayface. Tom Rhys Harries, who stars as Clayface, announced the wrap with a cryptic behind-the-scenes photo.
The actor posted a mirror shot to his Instagram Stories with the caption “CF PICTURE WRAP 🎥,” signaling that cameras have officially stopped rolling. However, the eerie messages and set dressing in the photo might be the real story. Check out the image below to see what you think.

The initial image from Tom Rhys Harries’s trailer doesn’t immediately stand out, but a closer look reveals unsettling details that strongly resemble the character Clayface. This naturally leads to speculation, and I’m going to share my thoughts on what’s happening in the trailer.

Let’s Talk Out Harries’ Cryptic Clayface Post
I’m really puzzled by the phrases scrawled on the mirror, like “Want in one hand, shit in the other. See which gets full first.” We know the character Harries plays is desperate to become a famous actor. I wonder if someone said this to him, suggesting he abandon his ambitions?
The incomplete line, “Go where the chalk-white…”—a reference to Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends—is especially interesting. The poem it comes from contrasts the dull, serious world of adults with the imaginative world of children. Does this suggest a troubled or desperate mind? Is this Clayface’s internal monologue, or a voice from his history? Or are these simply clues meant to lead us forward?

An actor who played alongside Clayface in DC’s ‘The World of Gotham’ shared positive experiences about joining the project and revealed a fun behind-the-scenes connection.
The mirror is surrounded by a strange collection of images and clippings: a person with a bag over their head, a distorted shadow, and dark, old photos of Gotham City—images that fit perfectly with the atmosphere of the upcoming The Batman Part II and Penguin series. There’s even a picture of a Ross 70 bicycle. One black and white photo seems to show a bare-chested man, possibly with scars, which might be a clue about Clayface’s frightening transformation. The whole arrangement feels less like decoration and more like a disturbing psychological profile, reminiscent of the movie Se7en.
Judging by the recent images, the upcoming Clayface movie seems less like a typical superhero film and more like a disturbing horror story. The movie centers around a struggling actor who uses an experimental substance to revive his career, but it gradually causes him to lose his human qualities. With James Watkins directing and James Gunn helping to produce, this could be DC’s most frightening origin story to date, and I’m really looking forward to seeing it in 2026.

The movie Clayface is scheduled to be released on September 11, 2026. Based on a recent post from actor Tom Rhys Harries, it seems the film will be a scary, horror-focused story rather than a typical superhero movie – potentially as unsettling as facing your own fears.
