Fans are speculating that Zack Snyder might return to his DC film universe, known as the SnyderVerse, now that Netflix is buying Warner Bros. The news of the acquisition has shocked Hollywood, raising questions about how movies will be released in the future. Many are also wondering what this means for James Gunn’s new DC Universe, and if Snyder could potentially rejoin the franchise after years of fans jokingly – and sometimes seriously – campaigning for Netflix to revive his vision.
Zack Snyder shared a new picture of Henry Cavill as Superman on Instagram, celebrating reaching 500,000 followers in just two months. Posted on December 7, 2025, Snyder expressed his deep respect for these characters, calling them “modern mythology” and saying it means a lot to see fans connect with his work. He ended the post with “Here’s to many more stories together,” which many fans are interpreting as a possible announcement of future DC movies. You can see the post below.
No Worries, the SnyderVerse Is Still Over
Although many fans would love to see Netflix bring back Zack Snyder’s vision for the DC Universe—including sequels to Justice League—it’s unlikely to happen. James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are now committed to DC Studios through 2027, have their own plans for the DCU that differ in style and mood from Snyder’s work. Despite some fans trying to create rivalry between the two directors, they are actually good friends. Gunn wrote the screenplay for Snyder’s first film, 2004’s Dawn of the Dead, and both of them appeared as themselves in a humorous episode of Rick and Morty, poking fun at their public images.
I’ve been following Zack Snyder’s work for a while, and it’s a bit sad to see how things have unfolded with Netflix. They initially seemed like a perfect match – he signed a deal with them after all the drama surrounding Justice League. But honestly, everything they’ve released together hasn’t really hit the mark with critics. Army of the Dead did get one spin-off, Army of Thieves, but that seems to have stalled. And Rebel Moon… well, that wasn’t well-received, and they even canceled his animated series, Twilight of the Gods. It feels like Netflix really believed in him for a while, but now they’re starting to distance themselves.
Zack Snyder’s recent talk about future collaborations probably refers to projects outside of the DC Universe. He’s already working on a new film, The Last Photograph, which he shot in late 2025. He’s also directing a movie about the UFC called Brawler, and writing an action film with Tig Notaro. While Snyder seems to have left the DC Extended Universe behind, his fans likely haven’t.
