DC is surprisingly fast-tracking Robin’s return to the big screen, altering previous plans for the character. After the poorly received Batman & Robin film in 1997, Robin hasn’t been prominently featured in Batman movies. His only recent live-action role was in the Titans series, separate from Batman. However, James Gunn’s DC Studios will change that by introducing Damian Wayne as Robin, and as the biological son of Batman.
DC Studios is currently prioritizing The Batman: Part 2, which has slowed progress on The Brave and the Bold. While a Batman reboot is planned for the DCU, it’s still in the scriptwriting phase and doesn’t have a firm release date yet. Fans can also look forward to Dynamic Duo, an animated movie featuring two versions of Batman’s sidekick, coming to theaters on June 30, 2028.
Fans have been anticipating Robin’s next appearance in a DC movie, with possibilities including Dynamic Duo or The Brave and the Bold. However, DC has just announced a new Batman movie series will start sooner than expected and will include Robin.
The first part of the animated movie, Batman: Knightfall, will be released later this year, kicking off a three-part adaptation of the famous DC story. Just like in the original comics, Tim Drake will be featured as Robin in this new animated version.
Screenwriter Jeremy Adams reassured fans on Instagram (as reported by DCU Prime TV) that Drake wouldn’t be replaced by Damian Wayne in the upcoming movie. He hinted that Tim Drake is fantastic in the role, calling him “old-school” and praising his performance.
This changes DC’s plans for Robin. Instead of appearing much later in stories like Dynamic Duo or The Brave and the Bold, Drake will become the next Boy Wonder much sooner – appearing this year during the Knightfall storyline.
Robin Finally Has a Bright On-Screen Future Ahead at DC

Tim Drake’s time as Robin is prominently featured in the Knightfall storyline, one of his earliest appearances in DC Comics. He initially supports Bruce Wayne emotionally after the death of Jason Todd, but quickly becomes central to the crisis when Bane breaks Batman’s back and a new Batman must emerge.
Following the incident, Jean-Paul Valley, known as Azrael, took over as Batman. However, his aggressive and unstable behavior, combined with his difficulty interacting with others, created challenges. Eventually, he proved himself a valuable ally as part of the Batman team and played a key role in Bruce Wayne’s return to the role of Batman.
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a good Robin on screen, especially after the movie Batman & Robin. But that looks like it’s about to change! We’ll see different versions of Robin appearing in upcoming projects: Tim Drake in Knightfall, Damian Wayne in The Brave and the Bold, and both Jason Todd and Dick Grayson will star in the animated film Dynamic Duo, which is coming out in 2028.
This is great news for fans: all four of the main characters who’ve been Batman’s Robin will appear in a movie within the next few years. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Stephanie Brown or Carrie Kelly will be making an appearance anytime soon.
So far, Wayne is the only actor officially confirmed for James Gunn’s DC Universe. However, because The Brave and the Bold will feature the Bat-Family, fans believe we might also see other characters connected to Batman or former Robins appear in the series.
DC Studios is working on a Teen Titans movie with an unexpected change: Bruce Wayne will take the place of Dick Grayson. However, the project has been paused, and its future is uncertain, because the writer, Ana Nogueira, is now concentrating on the Wonder Woman reboot.
There’s been a lot of speculation about whether Robin will appear in The Batman: Part 2. While rumors have suggested the iconic sidekick could join Robert Pattinson’s Batman, director Matt Reeves has hinted that it’s unlikely, so fans shouldn’t expect to see him in the 2027 sequel.
