DC Studios has several Batman-related projects coming soon. While fans are anticipating The Batman: Part 2 in October 2027 and The Brave and the Bold at a later date, other Dark Knight stories are on the way much sooner. This year, audiences will get a horror movie exploring the origins of Clayface, and the first installment in an animated Batman: Knightfall saga will also be released.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation are joining forces to create a three-part animated movie series based on the classic Batman story, Knightfall. This iconic storyline features the villain Bane breaking Batman’s back, forcing a new hero, Azrael, to take on the role of the Caped Crusader until Bruce Wayne recovers and returns.
Warner Bros. Animation, DC Studios, and WB Home Entertainment will debut the first part of their new animated movie, Batman: Knightfall, at the Annecy Film Festival in June. The festival runs from June 21st to 27th, and the specific date for the Knightfall screening will be announced soon.
Jeff Wamester, known for directing all parts of Crisis on Infinite Earths, Justice League: Warworld, and Justice Society: World War II, will direct the adaptation. The script is written by Jeremy Adams, who previously worked with Wamester on Justice League: Warworld and Justice Society: World War II.
The Annecy Film Festival has revealed that Knightfall Part 1 will be 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 31 seconds long. While that might seem brief for a film, it’s consistent with the length of other DC animated movies released directly to digital platforms.
The studio has announced the first film in a planned trilogy will be titled Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall, with a release currently slated for 2026. While it’s unknown if the movies will be released for purchase or through a streaming service, they probably won’t be shown in movie theaters at all.
The new DC movie is being promoted as the beginning of a multi-part animated series based on a famous and highly-regarded Batman comic book storyline. Future movies are planned to continue the story, adapting the ‘Knightsquest’ and ‘KnightEnds’ arcs.
DC Studios Could Release 3 Batman Movies In 2027

I’m so excited to see Warner Bros. continuing to invest heavily in Batman! They’ve got a ton of projects happening – not just within the main DC Universe, but also standalone stories like The Batman 2, an animated series called Caped Crusader, another animated show Dynamic Duo, and even a planned Knightfall trilogy. And for those of us following the DCU directly, we’ll be getting The Brave and the Bold and Clayface in October, which I can’t wait for!
The first showing of Batman: Knightfall Part 1 will be at the Annecy Film Festival in June, but a wider release date hasn’t been announced yet. We expect to learn more about this DC animated movie, and its two planned sequels, around the time of the festival in June.
As a huge fan, I was so excited when the Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy finally came out! They released all three movies really quickly in 2024 – January, April, and July to be exact. Each one was an animated movie and they all premiered on digital platforms where you had to pay to watch. Luckily, physical copies became available soon after, and then eventually, they landed on HBO Max a few months later. It was a great year to be a fan!
It’s unclear if DC Studios intends to release the Knightfall story as rapidly as their previous multi-movie arc. But if they do, fans might see the complete Batman storyline finished sometime next year, with the final two parts potentially joining The Batman: Part 2 as part of DC’s 2027 plans.
