DC Studios’ Dynamic Duo Movie Makes DC History With First Footage

The new DC Studios project, Dynamic Duo, is making waves as the first DC footage released online. While the episode, which focuses on two Robins teaming up in Gotham City, isn’t scheduled to arrive until June 2028, fans have already gotten a sneak peek at the story – almost three years before its official release.

Swaybox Studios, the animation studio behind Dynamic Duo, has shared a first look at the upcoming 2028 DC film. This preview is part of their search for talent to work on the project and is notable because it’s the first time a studio has released footage of a DC movie so far in advance – over two and a half years before its release.

The brief preview of the DC Studios film showed a station wagon arriving at a run-down garage, appearing in a city drenched by rain. Shortly after, the car is seen speeding away and crashing into a concrete pillar.

I’m so excited! It looks like Sawybox is launching a huge open audition for a DC Studios movie! Starting this Saturday, November 15th, anyone can submit their info online for a chance to be in it. It’s amazing that they’re opening it up to everyone!

The upcoming film, Dynamic Duo, is scheduled for release on June 30, 2028, following other DC Studios projects such as Supergirl, Clayface, The Batman 2, and the recently announced Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow. Created by DC Studios, Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions, and Swaybox Studios, the movie will feature a distinctive animation style combining stop-motion, computer-generated imagery, and advanced puppetry.

The upcoming film is expected to feature both Dick Grayson and Jason Todd as Robin, teaming up to defeat a powerful villain. It’s currently unknown whether the movie will fit into James Gunn’s new DC Universe or exist as a separate story outside of the main continuity.

Will Dynamic Duo Get Moved Up?

When fans see the first footage from the upcoming DC movie, Dynamic Duo, they might wonder if the film is further along in production than previously believed.

Currently, the DC Studios/Swaybox Studios movie has the furthest release date of any DC film we know about – June 2028. That’s a long time from now, and many other movies could come out before then. So, it’s unusual that the team behind it is showing footage so early – over 960 days before the movie actually hits theaters.

It’s possible the Dynamic Duo could be released earlier than planned if development progresses quickly and it’s completed before June 30, 2028, but don’t expect this initial look to confirm that will happen.

This initial preview was probably just meant to generate excitement for the movie’s open casting call, and nothing more. Given how complicated Swaybox’s unique filmmaking process is – blending puppetry, stop-motion animation, and CGI – the 2028 DC project will likely need as much time as possible to complete.

Even if the release date changed, moving it up too early could conflict with the planned release of The Batman 2, which is currently scheduled for October 1, 2027.

As a big movie fan, I’m really hoping this is just a taste of what’s to come! I’m excited to see more little glimpses and updates as Dynamic Duo continues to be made over the next couple of years.
