In the game Avowed, side quests offer an excellent opportunity for character advancement, enabling players to delve deeper into the game’s world and acquire top-tier equipment as a bonus. Among these missions, Dawntreader is one of the most beneficial to embark on early, so we’re going to walk you through its start and completion process step by step.
In Avowed, outside the scant bounties, side missions serve as a reliable means of earning experience points. These missions are usually brief, although they may not always be so, and they provide distinct challenges that differ from those encountered within the main storyline.
The Dawntreader mission is something you can take on relatively early, around Level 5 with standard equipment, so there’s no need to fret about being underprepared for it.
Keeping these points in consideration, let me share some essential tips for finishing Dawntreader within the game Avowed. Please note that parts discussing the effects of decisions might reveal plot details, so exercise caution when proceeding if you want to avoid spoilers.
Where to get the Dawntreader quest in Avowed
To start the Dawntreader mission, make your way to the Southern Paradis Administrative District. Since your primary objective involves meeting with the Ambassador promptly, it’s beneficial to grab this quest concurrently.
Just outside the Ambassador’s office, there’s a gravely wounded character named Ofryc. If you chat with him, he’ll share tales of an expedition he took part in with the Free Expedition Corps, along with his brother Caedmon.
He’s going to request that you locate the Expedition and his brother, ensuring their safe escape from there. If you agree to this task, you can proceed with your journey.
Avowed Dawntreader quest walkthrough
Find the Eothasian Temple and Caedmon
Depart from Paradis, make your way northward towards the designated spot on the map. The desired location is situated south of Pilgrim’s Path and east of the Godless Ruins. When you come across Seegwin and Kauia engaged in a dispute, you’ll be on the correct path.
A more effective approach would be to successfully pass a Dexterity check while conversing with them, enabling you to simply walk past. If not, your only other option is to use your authority or persuasion to convince them to allow you to proceed.
Make your way along the tight gorge, eventually arriving at the Eothasian Temple. Proceed inside and adhere to the route (which is entirely straight), dealing with the Xaurips as you advance.
Here’s your introduction to Essence Generators and switches that become active through abrupt stimuli. A simple method to initiate them is by scattering Electric Lily Seeds at the control panel. Alternatively, you can utilize skills such as Jolting Touch for the same purpose.
In approximately five minutes of moving forward, you’ll reach a spot illuminated with a deep purple glow – essentially serving as a library. Climb the stairs, and there you’ll find Caedmon who seems unwell. He’ll share information about the Oracle and offer you a new task: talk to him again. Send Caedmon off and continue along the path.
Speak to Sargamis, the Oracle and learn more
As you make your way forward, you’ll encounter a spacious location featuring a grand statue of a golden-hued, humanoid figure – commonly recognized as the Oracle named Sargamis. Engage in conversation with him for valuable insights about the current situation.
Instead of admitting knowledge about what happened to the Expeditionary Corps, he’ll feign innocence, saying he hasn’t seen them, prior to asking you to find the Splinter of Eothas for him. His ultimate goal is to insert this artifact into the statue, thereby concluding his grand project.
I’ll go get it for him and check if we can locate other members of the Corps. Let’s proceed together on this task.
Proceed through and retrieve the relic
Leaving the spacious room behind, you’ll soon encounter a submerged passageway where swimming is necessary. Keep in mind that you may run into Web Spinners of different sizes along the way, so stay alert and ready for potential conflicts.
Coming up, you’ll encounter a wall with webbed structure which you’ll need to set ablaze before reaching another big cave filled with numerous fallen structures. Since many parts of these aren’t accessible at this point, take the stairs on your right instead.
Move forward, and you’ll come across an artifact, but be mindful that upon taking it, a swarm of skeletons will follow closely behind. Among them is a formidable foe called the Godless Executioner, who packs quite a punch, so make sure to save your strongest moves for him.
Once you’ve vanquished all the skeletons, retrace your steps and find that the cave has been flooded. This makes it possible for you to swim through the water towards the next region, using the big fallen tree as a guide.
Optional: Continue Searching for the Aedyran Expedition
As you prepare to depart for Sargamis, make your way to the right until you enter another zone illuminated by purple light. Descend into the central chamber where the deceased (and clearly no longer among the living) members of the Expedition are stacked on a cart. Retrieve Gjeda’s Journal when you find it, and that part of your objective will be completed.
After that, you’ll find multiple options for handling the upcoming stage when you encounter the Oracle yet another time.
Give the relic to the Oracle
In conversation with Sargamis, it’s acceptable to promise to deposit the artifact inside the statue. After performing this action and pulling the lever, nothing will transpire. This situation may cause the Oracle to deduce that the Animancy gadget requires a sacrificial offering.
When talking with Sargamis, you can commit to setting the relic in the statue. Upon doing so and activating the lever, nothing will occur, prompting the Oracle to infer that the Animancy device needs a sacrifice.
Before exiting the Animancy Device, you have the option to accept the challenge of initiating a boss fight against him. Alternatively, you could convince him that he’s the only significant figure worthy of a sacrificial offering. If successful, he would willingly enter the device, enabling you to perform an electrifying attack.
Should you select the Court Augur as your character’s background during the initial stages of the game, you also have the ability to convince him to forsake his intended course of action.
Refuse to give the Oracle the relic
If you had come across the Expeditionary Corps earlier, you’d have the chance to challenge the Oracle, who will indirectly admit to causing their demise. You then have the option to engage in a battle with him over this revelation, or opt not to return the artifact. In either case, it leads to a confrontation or boss fight.
He’s relatively simple to defeat. Quickly eliminate the minions he summons, and either evade or shield against his powerful linear attack, as it causes significant damage.
After taking his life, you’ll be able to acquire the One-Handed Sword known as The Last Light of Day +2, an excellent choice for melee-focused Fighter characters. Subsequently, a voice will reach out to you, leaving you with another crucial decision to make.
Decide what to do with the statue
As a gamer, I find myself compelled by this enigmatic whisper to slot the ancient artifact into the stone figure, for I sense that its power could be harnessed to my advantage down the line.
Placing the artifact within the statue will make the voice happy, but you won’t gain anything from it right now. On the contrary, if you decide to go down a destructive path, you can harm the three Essence Producers and overload the statue, causing irreversible damage.
This decision might not sit well with the voice, as it vocally expresses its disagreement, yet there are no repercussions or penalties to consider right now.
Report back to Ofryc
Leave this place and make your way to the Administration sector where you can find Ofryc. Upon your arrival, you’ll notice that he has been reconnected with his brother, and they are both extremely thankful for your assistance.
Share details about what happened to the remaining members of the Expeditionary Corps, and you’ll be given the Delver’s Caution ring as a token of gratitude. This artifact increases your Agility by one point and enhances your movement through the world by 15% in Parkour speed.
After wrapping up this grand adventure, I’m bound for the bathhouse at a later time, where I’ll find old friend Caedmon, truly embracing life to its fullest – a promise kept as we chatted earlier about his intentions.
