David Jonsson is taking on the main character for Frank Ocean’s upcoming directorial premiere movie, and filming has already started in Mexico City. The title of this independent production is still undisclosed, and specific storyline information is being kept secret.
In recent times, a promising young actor from Britain has been cast as the joint lead in Ridley Scott’s movie “Alien: Romulus,” sharing the screen with Cailee Spaeny. This role has earned him widespread acclaim and praise.
In 2024, he was featured on both EbMaster’s list of “10 Actors to Keep an Eye On” and The Hollywood Reporter’s “Next Gen Talent” list. Furthermore, in 2025, he received a nomination for the Rising Star Award at the EE BAFTA Film Awards, which is chosen by the public. Previously, he had appeared in the film “Rye Lane,” produced by Searchlight Pictures and helmed by director Raine Allen Miller. This movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was also nominated for “Outstanding British Film” at the BAFTA Film Awards.
Upcoming projects for Jonsson include “Wasteman,” where he’ll be acting alongside Tom Blyth, as well as Stephen King’s “The Long Walk” opposite Cooper Hoffman, both produced by Lionsgate. Notably, he has also been confirmed to star in Colman Domingo’s directorial debut “Scandalous,” which will feature Sydney Sweeney as his co-star.
Jonsson was the lead actor in the brief movie titled “Pray,” which screened at the London Film Festival, and also in the highly praised “Meat Puppet,” a short film that won awards under the direction of Eros V.
In the realm of TV production, Jonsson spearheaded the BBC’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s “Murder is Easy” in 2023. Additionally, Jonsson portrayed the character Gus in the critically acclaimed joint production between BBC and HBO, titled “Industry.
Among his stage performances are “And Breathe” (at The Almeida, where he received the title of Best Actor at the Black British Theatre Awards), “Mary Stuart” (a joint production between The Almeida and West End), as well as “Don Juan in Soho” (at Wyndham’s).
