Tony Gilroy, the creator of Andor, is having to replace an actor in his upcoming movie, Behemoth. David Harbour, known for his role in Stranger Things, had to leave the project to get some rest after filming the fifth and final season of the popular Netflix series. That season’s two-hour finale aired on New Year’s Day 2026.
The upcoming film Behemoth!, written and directed by Gilroy and produced by Searchlight Pictures, centers on Alex Serian, a musician who returns to Los Angeles. The movie is described as a celebration of film music and the people behind it. The cast includes Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), Olivia Wilde (Cowboys & Aliens), Eva Victor (Billions), Matthew Lillard (The Life of Chuck), Alexa Swinton (Maestro), Margarite Levieva (Task), and Barry Livingston (The Social Network).
On the podcast Lovett or Leave It, the creator of the film Michael Clayton was asked about a strange sighting: Pascal was seen leaving the gym carrying a cello. Gilroy responded with an explanation.
He plays the cello in the movie, and he’s been practicing really hard. We want him to carry the cello case around all the time, and there’s a reason for that. When we made The Devil’s Advocate, Keanu Reeves initially seemed unlikely as a lawyer – we were all surprised! Director Taylor Hackford made him start wearing a suit three months before filming and insisted he never take it off. Eventually, he got so used to it that it looked natural. Similarly, if someone carries a cello case enough, it’ll start to feel like they actually are a cellist.
David Harbour “Couldn’t Process” the End of ‘Stranger Things’

Netflix
It’s understandable why Harbour is leaving his role in Behemoth! considering what he told Screen Rant at Rose City Comic Con last year. He felt so strongly about Stranger Things ending that he needed time to process it all emotionally.
It felt really strange and unreal. I tend to process things slowly, and I was completely overwhelmed. I can’t reveal what happened on our final day of filming – it would give away a major spoiler – but it was a huge, impactful moment. I honestly couldn’t believe it was the end. I realized the timing was perfect – the biggest event for my character happened right then. So I really focused on making that scene as powerful as possible. And then, suddenly, it was over.
I’ve worked with the Duffer Brothers for a decade now, and we’ve been through a lot together. Saying goodbye to this show, and to that incredible cast and crew, has been really tough – honestly, it took me almost half a year to fully come to terms with it. Everything happened so fast, it all felt really strange and unreal.
