David Corenswet Congratulates Jonathan Bailey on His Masculinity

If HBO is looking for actors for a hockey show, David Corenswet (star of Superman) and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked: For Good) would be great choices. The two recently interviewed each other for “Actors on Actors” and discussed a surprising similarity in their roles: both characters kiss their love interests while floating in the air. However, Corenswet pointed out a key difference. While his character, Clark Kent, lifts Lois Lane, Bailey’s character is lifted by Cynthia Erivo. During the song “As Long As You’re Mine,” Erivo physically lifts Bailey. Corenswet, who previously played Ben Platt’s boyfriend in The Politician, was impressed that Bailey managed to appear strong and masculine while being lifted by a woman, noting it’s much easier to project power when you’re the one doing the lifting.

Bailey said it was a real honor to be a part of the experience, carefully avoiding comments about traditional masculinity that later caused some criticism. He joked that he’d happily be supported by Cynthia and Ari forever, and described it as a wonderful opportunity to perform alongside the other performer, even just from a technical standpoint like being in a harness. He suggested they could revisit the topic of kissing in season two of Heated Rivalry. Corenswet playfully asked Bailey how he could possibly follow being named ‘Sexiest Man Alive,’ implying there’s only one way to find out.
