David Arquette on Reuniting with Kevin Williamson for Scream 7

David Arquette is excited to be back for Scream 7 and hints at working again with Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream and several of the sequels. This will be Williamson’s directorial debut in the Scream series, after previously writing the scripts for the first, second, and fourth films.

David Arquette portrayed Dewey Riley in every Scream film up until the 2022 movie, where his character was killed by Ghostface. However, despite this, it’s been confirmed that Dewey will appear in Scream 7.

In a recent interview with Men’s Journal, actor Courteney Cox mentioned that reuniting with director Wes Craven felt incredibly special, like a perfect return to where it all began. She also shared that the possibility of working with Craven again was a major reason she decided to reprise her role as Gale Weathers in the new movie. Here’s what she had to say:

I was thrilled to collaborate with Kevin Williamson again. He wrote and is directing this new movie, and it feels like a full-circle moment for me. I can’t share many details about the film, but I was genuinely excited to work with Kevin. We have a long-standing working relationship, and as the creator and writer of the original, he has an unmatched understanding of the story and its world.

Patricia Arquette recently spoke about the future of the Scream movies as the series enters a new phase with changes happening behind the scenes and in the cast. The latest film, Scream VI, was a big success, earning $166 million globally and becoming the highest-grossing Scream movie domestically with $108 million. Interestingly, neither Arquette nor Neve Campbell appeared in the film, as Campbell didn’t reach an agreement on her contract and salary.

Okay, so I’m really excited about Scream 7! It’s awesome that Guy Ritchie is directing, and from what I’ve heard, they’re going back to what made the original Scream so great. The cast is a huge part of that – they’ve brought back Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and even Matthew Lillard, which is amazing! Plus, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are returning, so it feels like a real mix of old and new. It’s definitely leaning into nostalgia, and honestly, I’m here for it!

The cast is growing with several new faces! Joel McHale will play Sydney’s husband, and Isabel May will play her daughter. Celeste O’Connor, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Asa Germann, Anna Camp, Michelle Randolph, and Jimmy Tatro have also joined the film, though their roles are currently undisclosed. Scott Foley, known for playing Ghostface in Scream 3, is also on board in a mystery role.

With details about Scream 7 still a secret, it’s fun to speculate about which familiar faces might play Ghostface. The involvement of writer Kevin Williamson and Courteney Cox’s enthusiasm suggest the movie will likely focus on characters from past films and explore themes of legacy, rather than a complete reboot. Scream 7 is currently scheduled to be released on February 27, 2026.
