Dave Portnoy buys pizzeria new oven as customers overwhelm restautant after viral review

Columbus’ Artisan Pizza Cafe is getting ready to reopen its doors thanks to Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, who helped replace their broken oven.

The cafe first became incredibly popular in September after a review by Dave Portnoy. He gave it a score of 8.1 out of 10 on his ‘One Bite’ series, which caused a huge surge in customers and temporarily closed the cafe when they ran out of ingredients.

In his review, Portnoy questioned if the business could handle the expected increase in orders after he published his rating.

Jasmin Ahmed, the cafe owner, had to close again on November 6th when the oven broke down completely. It had been partially broken since her first month, and she was trying to raise money to buy a new one.

Ahmed mentioned that Portnoy bought a state-of-the-art oven for the shop, which means they can reopen immediately after it’s installed.

I remember reading Portnoy’s first review from September 8, 2025, and it was clear Ahmed and her husband were still getting the hang of things with taking orders. She mentioned she’d lived in Italy and that’s what sparked the idea for the cafe, but they just didn’t have the money for a phone ordering system yet. It was a really honest review, and you could tell they were working hard to make things great.

Following the loss of her oven, Ahmed expressed her apologies to customers, noting that some travel long distances just to taste her pizza.

This isn’t the first time Dave Portnoy has supported a pizza place he reviewed. In December 2024, he donated $60,000 to Tiny Brick Oven to help them avoid closing around Christmas.
