A lot of people are really excited about an independently developed video game, affectionately known as ‘Dark Souls meets Dinosaurs’.
Initially, FromSoftware ignited a trend when they launched Demon’s Souls and later titles adhering to the same gameplay structure. Even though Elden Ring amplified the popularity of this specific gaming style, various other development studios have crafted their unique responses to these games, which are now commonly referred to as “Souls-like” games.
There are a tonne of existing Soulslikes for players to try out as well as some upcoming titles in the genre that you can look forward to. One game that’s been on our radar and probably should have gotten an honorary mention on that list has just become available to wishlist on Steam.
In formal terms, the title of this game is Dinoblade; it’s an Action Role-Playing Game (RPG) emphasizing combat that revolves around dynamic dinosaur animations, armed with swords. Those who have been tracking the project may affectionately refer to it as “Dark Souls with Dinosaurs.
Exciting news! Dinoblade is now up on your Steam Wishlist! Originally, I created animations for my demo reel, but the positive response was overwhelming that it led to developing a game. Now, after more than a year of hard work, we’ve reached this point. By adding Dinoblade to your wishlist, you’ll be helping us tremendously! Thank you all!

Dinoblade has an explosive potential
As a solo game developer known as JeanAnimate on the socials, I embarked on a project that started off as just an animation test – Dinoblade. Then, a video of this concept caught fire online, sparking comments from viewers urging me to transform it into a playable game experience.
In response to the challenge, he started consistently sharing updates about X and TikTok, demonstrating his advancement in the game. Over time, he gradually built up a passionate fan base. Clips featuring fresh dinosaurs, weapons, and finishing moves regularly drew significant attention, with likes numbering in the millions.
One intriguing aspect of Dinoblade lies in its resemblance to recent indie successes that surpassed their initial expectations. For instance, just like the 2024 Game of the Year contender Belatro, which was developed single-handedly, Dinoblade shares this solo development trait. Moreover, much like Palworld, a smash hit, which garnered a similar nickname prior to its release as fans referred to it as ‘Pokemon with Guns’, Dinoblade has also been likened to something before its launch.
The “Dark Souls Meets Dinosaurs” tagline definitely has an appealing allure, yet it’s worth mentioning that the parrying techniques displayed in previews resemble those seen in Sekiro or Lies of P. There’s no doubting that dinosaurs wielding enormous swords to decapitate each other is simply mind-blowing!
As a die-hard fan, I’d have named it “Dinoswords,” but regardless of the name, it won’t deter me from getting my hands on it! Although Dinoblade’s release date isn’t set in stone yet, its appearance on Steam suggests that development is progressing smoothly.
