Dark Interval Part 2 is 5-6 hours of pure fun in the Half-Life 2 universe

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say that the recent developments in the Half-Life series have been nothing short of exhilarating. The resurgence of Half-Life 2 and its record-breaking activity on Steam has kept the community buzzing, and the whispers of Half-Life 3 growing louder by the day.

In recent times, enthusiasts of the Half-Life franchise have found little cause for complaint. A recent update has revitalized HL2, setting a new activity record on Steam for the series’ second installment. Furthermore, it seems increasingly probable that Valve is indeed developing Half-Life 3. As fans eagerly await an official announcement of the next chapter, they are keeping busy by crafting notable modifications. Notably, a new version of Black Mesa: Blue Shift has emerged, and today we’d like to highlight the newly released second part of the popular mod Dark Interval.

The initial segment was unveiled in 2016, so we’ve been eagerly anticipating the next installment for quite a while now. This project, however, is a creative offshoot from Half-Life 2, made up of elements that were initially set aside by the original creators at Valve. The authors crafted their own environments, characters, and narratives, drawing inspiration from what Valve had envisioned but ultimately discarded before the game’s launch.

All parts have been skillfully revised to form a consistent narrative for the latest campaign. Overall, the project is exceptionally well-executed, often rivaling the content of the original HL2. To maintain this level of quality, the authors started from scratch and didn’t use any elements from the game version that leaked in 2003. Instead, they drew inspiration from the locations and plot points from that specific SKU, but every element of their mod, including all maps, was manually crafted.

It’s important to note that the latest edition of the mod encompasses not just Part 2 of the project, but also a slightly improved iteration of the initial part. To be specific, Dark Interval Part 2 is segmented into five chapters and typically requires around 5-6 hours to finish. Conversely, wrapping up Part 1, which consists of four chapters, can be accomplished in just an hour.

Instead of taking a break, the developers are dedicating their time to fixing bugs for “Dark Internal Part 2”. Once that task is completed, they plan to move forward with the development of the third installment in the series.
