Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Looks To Be Setting Up A Major Villain Redemption

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 1

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is here, and the first episode immediately establishes the central conflicts and dramatically changes things up with an unexpected choice of villain.

While Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, is Daredevil’s most famous enemy, Benjamin Poindexter, also known as Bullseye, is arguably his greatest. After the latest season premiere, it’s difficult to say where Bullseye’s story will go in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Why Bullseye Saves Daredevil At The End of Born Again Season 2, Episode 1

The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 ended with Daredevil attempting to shield Cherry from a task force led by Mayor Fisk. During the fight, Cherry had a heart attack, which threw Daredevil off balance.

With his identity as Matt Murdock revealed and after a brutal confrontation with the AVTF, it seemed hopeless for both Murdock and Cherry to escape with their lives.

Suddenly, all of the AVTF officers fall, victims of incredibly accurate and deadly shots fired from somewhere outside Cherry’s apartment. A knife then bounces into the room, landing right in front of Matt with a message etched into it: “You’re welcome,” along with a crosshair symbol that looks very familiar. It’s surprising, considering Bullseye seemingly saved Daredevil’s life at the end of season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again—but what was his motive?

During the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock developed a strong dislike for Wilson Fisk (Poindexter) after Fisk was responsible for the death of Foggy Nelson. Even though Murdock threw Fisk off a roof but he survived, Matt decided to give up being Daredevil, feeling he had gone too far and tried to kill him.

Bullseye was determined to get revenge on Vanessa Fisk and Kingpin for the way they had used him. Despite this, Murdock bravely stepped in front of a shot aimed at Fisk, taking the bullet himself to protect the Kingpin.

Bullseye might feel like he’s evened the score with Matt after being rescued in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. Or, this could be the beginning of a much more complex relationship between them.

Is The MCU Setting Bullseye Up For Some “Redemption”?

After watching the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, it’s worth wondering if this could be the beginning of a path towards redemption for the character Bullseye, even if it’s a dark one.

The first season of Born Again showed that Bullseye fighting against Fisk doesn’t automatically mean he’s working with Daredevil. Daredevil wants Fisk brought to justice through the courts – he wants him to pay for his crimes legally – and he’s also against killing, so Bullseye isn’t a natural ally.

It looks like we might finally see a Bullseye acting on his own, without anyone controlling him. This raises the question: who is Bullseye when he’s making his own choices? We might see him try to ‘help’ Daredevil in upcoming episodes, even if Daredevil doesn’t ask for it, similar to how he was previously used by others.

It’s possible Bullseye could eventually become more like the Punisher, changing his ways over time. However, Matt will never be able to forgive or forget the harm Bullseye caused, especially what he did to Foggy and all the other people he’s killed.

Based on how the first episode ended, the second season of Daredevil: Born Again seems to be taking the conflict between Bullseye and Daredevil in a new direction, different from what we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. This could make Bullseye a particularly interesting character as the show progresses.
