The latest episode of Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again is now the most popular show on Disney+.
The intense Marvel series centers on the conflict between Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). Fisk is attempting to seize complete control of New York City by imposing martial law. However, the show took a dramatic turn in episode 4 of season 2 when Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) attacked at a charity event. Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer), Fisk’s wife, was struck by a shard of glass and her injury appears to be life-threatening, causing a strong reaction from Marvel fans.
The fourth episode of Daredevil: Born Again, titled “Gloves Off,” has reached a new high on Disney+. It’s now the highest-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe episode on the platform, earning an impressive 9.6 out of 10 on IMDb. This slightly surpasses the rating of the Loki season 2 finale, “Glorious Purpose,” which scored a 9.5. Other highly-rated Disney+ episodes include Loki season 1’s “The Nexus Point” and Agatha All Along‘s “Death’s Hand in Mind” (both 9.0), WandaVision‘s “On a Very Special Episode…” (8.9), two episodes from What If season 1 (also 8.9), and Moon Knight‘s “Asylum” (8.8).
The latest Disney+ series has episodes that rank as highly as the best from the original Netflix Marvel shows. Specifically, its finale matches the score of Daredevil season 3’s “A New Napkin,” and another episode, “Blindsided,” also earned a 9.5. While some episodes of Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. also received scores above 9.0, those aired on ABC or Hulu before Disney+ launched in 2021. However, even with those earlier shows included, “Gloves Off” remains the highest-rated episode in the entire history of Marvel TV series.
Before the big twist in episode four, the early reviews for Daredevil: Born Again season two were really strong. A lot of critics were saying it was a fantastic return to the quality we saw in the original Netflix series. Interestingly, many pointed to the episode “Gloves Off” as the moment things truly clicked, setting the stage for everything that happened later in the season.
New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again will be released every Tuesday at 9 pm Eastern Time on Disney+, continuing until May 5th.
