The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is now available on Disney+, and the premiere immediately throws Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) into a tough battle against Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio).
The new season of the Marvel show finds Daredevil leading a secret fight against the Mayor, who has turned New York City into something resembling a police state. This allows the Mayor to secretly expand his own criminal activities, and he uses a ruthless task force to silence anyone who criticizes him.
It’s clear Daredevil will need help, and Jessica Jones is set to appear in later episodes. For now, though, it’s just Matt Murdock and Karen Page facing whatever challenges come their way.
Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again kicks off with a lot of action, immediately establishing that the fight for control of New York is wide open. Here’s a rundown of everything that happens in the first episode.
Kingpin frames Daredevil for sinking his cargo ship, which was carrying military grade weaponry
The first episode begins with Matt fighting on a cargo ship called the Northern Star, which is secretly bringing weapons into Kingpin Freeport. This happens right after a broadcast on the BB Report shows Mayor Fisk’s positive spin on how much the city has improved under the AVTF’s control.
The main reason the villain wanted to become Mayor was to establish a Freeport, which would let him import any goods into the city without inspection or control.
Daredevil severely injures the ship’s crew, prompting orders to sink the Northern Star. Using his enhanced hearing, he overhears the command and the scene visually expands to emphasize his awareness. In a desperate move, he plants a tracking device – his watch – inside a weapons container before the ship plunges into the Hudson River, effectively blocking access to Freeport.
The shipwreck creates a major issue for CIA agent Mr. Charles (Matthew Lillard), who angrily calls it a disaster while demanding answers from Fisk about the weapons now lost underwater. The CIA has its own plans for the Freeport and, after some convincing, Mr. Charles agrees to assist Fisk in reopening the port, even if it means using temporary, expendable workers.
Heather hallucinates Muse while working on “superhero trials”

Kingpin begins a series of challenges designed to expose and test the city’s vigilantes, unexpectedly bringing psychiatrist Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva) back into the investigation.
Heather’s job is to interview vigilantes and argue they belong in jail. However, she’s still traumatized from being kidnapped by the serial killer Muse (Hunter Doohan) last season, and now she’s experiencing hallucinations where she believes he’s secretly controlling Swordsman (Tony Dalton) even from prison.
Once she regained her composure, she immediately became more aggressive when evaluating Swordsman. This change raises the question of whether she’s developing into a more dangerous antagonist, but we’ll need to observe further to know for sure.
Meanwhile, Matt’s colleague Kirsten McDuffie learns from the District Attorney that the trials are a sham – the outcome has already been decided, and those testifying will be imprisoned no matter what. It’s a clear display of oppressive control.
Bullseye saves Daredevil and Cherry from the AVTF

Matt and his old friend Cherry, a former detective, attempt to assist the sailors who deliberately sank the ship. This draws unwanted attention from the AVTF, who invade Cherry’s home and torture him. Fortunately, Daredevil arrives just in time to intervene and save him.
The intense fight causes Cherry to suffer a heart attack as Matt battles the AVTF agents. The sound of her failing heart reminds Daredevil of Foggy’s death from Season 1, momentarily distracting him. This gives the agents the opportunity they need to subdue and knock him unconscious.
Okay, so it always happens the same way! They figure out Daredevil is actually Matt Murdock – usually with a pretty shocked “Holy s!” – and then immediately Bullseye shoots them from across the street. Like, no time to process! And then, to top it all off, he throws a knife into the room with a little message – “You’re welcome” and his target symbol. Seriously, what a psycho! It’s just…oh dear, it’s awful!
