‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 Actor Matthew Lillard Reveals Details About His Mysterious Character

Matthew Lillard, known for his roles in the Five Nights at Freddy’s and Scream movies, is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’ll be appearing in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, which will stream on Disney+ in March 2026. Although he’s been reported to play a character named Mr. Charles, details about his role were unclear. Now, Lillard has shared that he’ll be playing a completely original character within the dark and intense world of Hell’s Kitchen.

Joe Deckelmeier from MovieWeb recently spoke with Matthew Lillard before the release of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 this December. Lillard confirmed he’ll be appearing in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, playing a brand new character in Hell’s Kitchen who won’t be wearing a superhero costume. He also shared that his past work with showrunner Dario Scardapane on The Bridge is what led to this exciting opportunity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s thrilled to be a part of it.

MovieWeb asked about your upcoming role in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. They want to know if your character is someone Marvel fans will already know, or if you’re playing a brand new face in Hell’s Kitchen. You hinted at the role previously, but they’re hoping you can give a little more information without revealing any spoilers.

Matthew Lillard is a newcomer to Hell’s Kitchen and doesn’t wear athletic clothing. He’s friends with the show’s new producer, Dario Scardapane, whom he worked with on ‘The Bridge.’ He’s thrilled to be part of the show Dario created, and he’s a big fan of that world.

The role feels like a natural fit for my acting style. It has both high-energy scenes and quiet, intimate moments, which was a joy to play. I truly believe it’s a fantastic show – I’ve heard amazing feedback from others involved, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. I hope fans are excited too! It’s scheduled to be released in March, and I think audiences are really going to enjoy it.

Earlier reports suggest that actor Zach Lillard’s character will be an enemy of Mayor Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio). He could be a new political opponent, potentially connected to the corruption within New York City’s government, or something else entirely. It’s also possible Lillard is portraying a character inspired by the Marvel comics, but adapted for the realistic tone of the Born Again series. Either way, Lillard seems excited to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and fans are eagerly anticipating his debut this March.

Matthew Lillard Teases His Unexpected Return in ‘Scream 7’

Dimension Films

Following disagreements among the new cast after Scream 6, the Scream franchise is taking a step back to its roots with the seventh film. Neve Campbell is returning as a central figure, and Scream 7 aims to include many beloved characters from throughout the series—even those who previously died. Matthew Lillard recently confirmed he’ll be reprising his role as Stu Macher, despite his character’s death in the first Scream movie. While it’s unknown if Stu will appear as a ghost or somehow return physically, Lillard expressed his enthusiasm about reuniting with the original cast from the 1996 film.

Honestly, when Kevin first called, I was buzzing with questions! I’m genuinely thrilled to be back working on this project, and I really hope the fans feel the same way. There’s always that little bit of pressure, you know? I just want to deliver something everyone enjoys. But I have a good feeling about this one – the script is sharp, the cast is incredible, and I’m optimistic we’ve got a real winner on our hands.

It feels wonderful to be back with the cast, like reuniting with old friends. Working with Neve Campbell is always a highlight. We’re all optimistic that this new installment will excite fans – it really captures the spirit of the original Scream films. We’re hoping to create something that fans will truly love. I’ve been in some pretty bad movies with awful roles, but this project is a genuinely enjoyable experience.

The next Scream movie, Scream 7, is scheduled to be released in theaters on February 27, 2026. The film will star Courteney Cox, Isabel May, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Goodin, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons, and Mark Consuelos.
